You know, I don’t completely agree with all your points but there is some real merit in your OP. I appreciate the post.
I like The Pit.
It keeps crap out of the other forums (mostly).
People can bitch about a personal problem, and sometimes I’m sure some of us learn from the other person’s problem (there, but for the grace of Og, I go).
People can air out their beefs. Sometimes it even gets cleared up. 
If I don’t feel like reading vitriol on some days I stay away.
Sometimes I like contributing my own bile.
I think it’s very useful.

I suppose it would be without merit to point out that the Pit was created to allow members to pit those who were fighting alongside ignorance, not against it? Granted, it has certainly changed in functional purpose since then, but that was the original intent.

That so? Hmm…it has some merit, but if the person’s just being obnoxious it can be mod-reported, and if he is just suffering from illogic he can be debated.
