Pitting Traitorous Black Male Trump Supporters

it’s white liberal paternalism

Agree. The message seems to be, “You’re too dumb to know what’s best for you. I’m educated, so you should listen to me.” Very insulting & elitist, as stated previously.

As a far leftist, I agree.

Black men who vote for Trump are exactly as terrible as White men who vote for Trump. I don’t get to decide for them what their values or interests should be. They decide. I get to decide for myself whether their support for a fascist makes them a terrible person (spoiler: it does).

But I absolutely loathe this version of identity politics, where people are assigned to political teams by their immutable characteristics, and are considered traitors if they vote against that assignation.

The only treacherous quality involved is shared by all Trump voters: they voted against our common humanity.

Education is irrelevant. Even some Neolithic tribesman would have understood that supporting people who hate you and want to hurt you is stupid; no education needed, just a basic grasp of cause and effect.

Or even worse, voting the wrong way means you’re a house n****r.

The message is, “Why did you vote to hurt yourself?”

And the answer is simple: “We don’t believe you.”

Which won’t save them. Not that I feel any pity for them, if they get hurt or killed because they voted Trump into office that’s just karmic justice.

Okay then, but no one’s going to nag them into admitting how wrong they were.

Oh, MAGA will manage it. It’ll just be too late for them to change their mind.

There’s also a scenario of MAGA fragmenting, as it’s a movement of grievance. All of MAGA supports Trump of course, as long as he’s still living, but when people’s lives go to shit, if they can’t blame Dems, or the deep state, they might blame some faction or other prominent Republican leader. They might still defend their Trump vote.

This might be gaming out things too far though, the likelihood of this scenario will be clearer after Trump’s first few months.

They will blame who Tucker Carlson tells them to blame. It won’t make sense but sensible cultists are rarer than hens’ teeth.

My take is that “I told you so!” is a 100% legit feeling, and a very stupid thing to say. When people realize that Trump is a fucking imbecile whose economic policies are far worse than Biden’s, there needs to be a face-saving way for them to leave that MAGA nonsense behind. Not for their sake, but for the sake of the rest of us who really really need them to stop voting MAGA.

So, yeah. Say “I told you so!” here. but to their faces, keep talking about unions, and the value of strong public schools, and the need for strong infrastructure, and how more Helenes and Miltons are on their way for our children until we get climate change under control, and don’t tell them what credulous assholes they’ve been for supporting a fascist moron.

Indeed, instead of embracing principles, the Republican Party is embracing Trump. Cult of Personality can be dangerous. But they just don’t get it.

I agree but it is worth noting that Trump and his cronies will probably go after people based on their immutable characteristics. If you have that characteristic and voted for Trump should I be sympathetic about what happens to you when Trump comes for you (general “you”)?

At the risk of sounding like an asshole, your sympathy doesn’t matter one way or the other.

I disagree. My sympathy can lead me to help in some fashion to fix the problem. My lack of sympathy is “fuck them” and let the problem continue.

The Problem is not just affecting them, it is affecting millions of people–billions if you count climate change. If a lack of sympathy for one person makes you say fuck them and let the problem continue, that’s pretty fucked up.

You don’t need to have sympathy. You do need to consider how your actions are affecting the political viability of the movement going forward.

Objective intelligence would combat it. The MAGA manifesto is posted on line, and it lists all the atrocities they plan on committing. It is THEIR web site, so they can’t call them lies.

Yeah, like that’s gonna happen any day soon.

Aye, there’s the rub.
