who invented the little 3-legged pizza table in the middle of a dominos pizza?
Tony Thumb (Toms brother)
I think this is what you mean, yes?
Phillip J. Ragan, filed May 10, 1989. Not sure if it’s actually Domino’s, though.
And, in case you did not know its purpose, its so pizzas can be stacked on top of each other in such a way that they do not smush the ones beneith it.
They were used a bit before being patented. I personally put them in pizza boxes in 1987 whilst working for Pizza Hut. Their correct name (in Pizza Hut terminology) is “lid supports”.
I thought it was an ottoman for a leprechaun.
Heck, one of my favourite restaurants used to just slap a racketball-sized lump of pizza dough in the center.
Can something be patented after two years of use? I thought that the limit was one year.
I thought we were fighting ignorance here! Clearly, they are end-tables for Barbie Dolls:p
Oh yeah? So you have to buy two pizzas for a complete set? What a ripoff. (Of course, to get the benefit of an ottoman, you need to buy a mini easy chair.)
Honestly, I do not know, nor do I know if the item in the patent application is exactly the same as the standard lid supports Pizza Hut used. But we were using them in Spring/Summer 1987.
Ah, here’s the one. Vitale, February 12, 1985.
Crap—I hit preview too soon.
There’s this and maybe one of two others that I’ve come across so far; however, the model invented by Carmela Vitale seems to be the first one. Does Domino’s use the tripod one or the three-legged table one?
Incidentally, I ordered a Domino’s pizza the other day and got nothing in the way of lid support.
And, you also have to have a leprechaun! I’d venture that a lot more people have Barbie dolls!
