Place your bets - How much of NY burns?

So I’m sitting here having odd random thoughts, and it occurs to me that no matter who wins the Subway Series, there are going to be a whole lot of very pissed off New Yorkers and a whole lot of wildly celebrating New Yorkers in very close proximity. It seems to me that this is a Bad Thing, especially given the way cities have “celebrated” major sports victories in recent years - and that’s just the victors! I shudder to think what will happen when the winners and losers meet!

So anyway, place your bets! What percentage of the Big Apple goes up in flames?

There was a riot and looting in Berkeley 2 days ago because a UC party had room for 1000 people and 2000 people show up.
And the action started several hours after people were turned away, but they refused to disburse.

So an actual major event? That’s good for a night of terror all right.

(and disburse, too, probably)

I think the good folks of New York will undo all that work Disney has done in Times Square.

So you think the outcome will be positive then…

Any amount of New York going up in flames will be an improvement. Yankee Stadium going up in flames will be a heartwarming moment to treasure for a lifetime.

I am kidding, really i am kidding.

When i saw this i am wondering how serious the OP WAS. Anyway I was REMINDED of the rioting in Los Angeles when the Lakers won the championship over my Pacers. I do have to wonder what pacer fans would have done had we won.
With rabid sports fans you can never tell, what they’ll do with a win or a loss.

I doubt that you’ll see anything more than the usual bitching an moaning from the losing team’s fans (Mets), or joyous celebration from the winning team’s fans (Yankees ;)). There will be a ticker tape parade for both regardless of the outcome - Guiliani has already announced it. I think he’s just hedging his bets in case the Mets win. Whoever wins deserves their own parade, but that’s another story.

For all of NYC’s “big and bad and horribly murderous” reputation, the fans are very well-behaved after a championship. Oh sure, you’ll see drunks and pools of vomit in the street, lots of car-horn blowing, and probably some random fist fights, but that’s about it. When the Rangers won the Stanley Cup, there were no incidents of looting or fires. If anyone had a reason to go ape-shit, it was long suffering Ranger fans. When the Mets won the Series in '86 - nothing. Same for the three recent Yankee victories, and 2 Super Bowls for the Giants - no reports of any violent behavior. That’s quite a few oppurtunities for rowdiness, yet nothing happened. Granted, this WS is more of a civil war, but I don’t see any major problems happening.

Contrast that to what a few assholes in Detroit, Denver, and Los Angeles did when their teams won (looting, rioting, burning cars). I just don’t see the need for that.

Dire Wolf, who I am beginning to have much affection for, nailed it.

Name one time when New York rioted when a team won there? It has not happened. And I doubt it will…

I think there might be some isolated incidents of violence in the stands, outside the stadiums, etc., but riots? I don’t think so. New Yorkers (especially Yankee fans) are used to winning championships.

Dire Wolf,

Thank you.
Smeg,

The only way ANY portion of New York is going to burn is if someone’s tailgate barbeque gets out of control.

I never understood the riot mentality, anyway. “Great, we won (or Boo, we lost) let’s destroy our homes and shopping areas!” I have always failed to see the connection.

As far as the isolated incidents of violence others mentioned…

Very, very likely. There’s gonna be a fist fight in my living room if my SO doesn’t stop with all the Mets crap.

This is how my family breaks down. Sis and I - Yankee fans. Dad and SO - stupid Met fans. Mom - really doesn’t care, but says Mets because of my Dad. If there ends up being a riot anywhere in NY, it’ll be in my Mom’s family room.

The real question is, how many banks and/or jewelry stores in NYC will get robbed while the entire NYPD is busy breaking heads, er, I mean, keeping the peace, at Yankee Stadium?

we can always hope, can’t we?
