Places To Stay In Pittsburgh Pa.

I’ll be in and out of Pittsburgh for the next few months, sometimes weeks at a time and I want some advice on where to stay. There will be me and sometimes my two children, and rarely my wife. Cost is not a huge deal, but I’d like to keep it under 2K a month. I would also like to keep my stuff there, rather then bringing it back and forth. My only requirement is it must have an internet connection of some sort.
I am not real big on cheapie econo-lodge type establishments, but would if I must. Thanks for any advice!

What area of town are you going to be working (?) in?

Where will you be?

This is a major consideration- you don’t want long commutes or traffic jams, I assume. This means you should get a place to stay that’s on the dsame side of the city as your workplace, or you’ll spend most of your time trying to strain through the downtown section, where all the roads meet.

If you’re on the eastern or northern side, I may have some answers.

Housing is pretty cheap in the city. You can do VERY well for under 2K a month. Where in the city matters, though (as other posters have said). If you work on the North Side or South Side, it’d be much better for you to live in the North or South Hills rather than try to commute through downtown.

I can do my work anywhere there is a internet connection, so thats not a problem. Right now my wife is scheduled to be in the Magee-Women’s Hospital but thats only temporary, but as of now they are not positive where she will be in a few weeks. But it will still be in the UPMC family in Pittsburgh.

In that case, you’ll want to look in the East End of Pittsburgh. You’re lucky – there are some great neighborhoods. Squirrel Hill and Shadyside are convenient but expensive. Swissvale, Regent Square and Edgewood are good and reasonably priced. I’d recommend avoiding Oakland itself – it’s mostly student housing.

E-mail me for more insider information – I’d prefer to keep some things quiet on-line. I can certainly tell you which realtor to avoid at all costs! Meanwhile, here’s a link to one newspaper’s classifieds. I’ll also be happy to show you around.

Also, isn’t it about time we 'Burgh Dopers had a Dopefest? Maybe we could combine it with a Welcome to Pittsburgh party.

Yeah, I could stand to get out for a bit.

We should get a few people together and rent or reserve somewhere appropriate.

You know I already think we should.
