PlanetSide 2 is out tomorrow peoples!

I got the greatest kill steal ever today. I’m driving my sunderer to another base, and a smoking enemy sunderer is coming around the corner. I quickly switch to my basilisk turret and fire 1 shot - apparently the enemy sunderer has no health at all and that kills him. I kill the sunderer, 3 passengers, and bring 3 killstreaks to an end, as well as a group kill and maybe other stuff. Mix in the double xp, and I got somewhere around 3500xp from a single round in the basilisk.

New videos: Jump Pad Jousting and if you want to see what a successful zepher run looks like, run 1 and run 2. No voice comms. In the future I may record on mumble and integrate them.

I earned around 1250 certs today.

Don’t ask how long I played.

WHEE MAX JUMP JETS

Totally worth it.

I’m jealous! Between limited time (working 7 days/week) and only having 5 fps in big fights I’m limited in what I can do. The certs have been trickling in, though. I got a lot of mileage out of the ammo replenisher for the sunderer- all I have to do is find a vehicle zerg and tag along. Everytime a tank shoots, I get 15xp! Its not much, but its steady.

I think I’m going to buy more funbux next station cash sale (I’m guessing they will do one on xmas). I plan on using them to buy a shotgun. Other than that, I’m planning on concentrating on my engineer. I’m curious about the utility pouch…it seems like progressive levels alternate between giving more C4 and more mines- does that mean if I dont have C4 unlocked this upgrade does nothing? It would be interesting to max out AT mines, since even just 2 give me pretty consistent xp.

So, was hitchhiking in a tank as is my wont and things looked a bit grim when suddenly we were back at full health. Is there some sort of super-duper-tank fixing thing or was he cheating somehow? We finally got blown to bits after a longish run, but every time we got damaged and he hopped out to repair it it seemed to me like it only took a second, which is certainly a lot faster than my repair tool can do anything.

Other than that, I’m happy about my certs even is SenorBeef is making my cert income look puny, bah!

I know I’m replying to myself, but I just gotta share this: got another 100 certs and bought AT mines after much internal debate, then deployed a few and started feeling buyer’s remorse and didn’t have an opportunity to use any for a while. So there I am, huddling behind a pillar next to the ruins of a burning friendly Sunderer wondering what to do next, enemies all around me … and I get “Sunderer kill!” and 4x kill xp. An enemy Sunderer with 4 people aboard drove into a mine I dropped 5 minutes ago a mile away.

Maybe I like them after all.

I don’t know specifically, but last time I played someone was talking about a repair exploit that needs fixed. So something seems to be going on.

So you can definitely do the jihad jeep in this game. You strap some C4 to a flash, drive it at the enemy, hop off, as the momentum carries it towards the enemy you set off the C4. Captain C and I were doing it earlier, he got a bunch of kills with it. Mostly I kept running over people.

We should all get at least 1 class with at least 1 c4, and a couple of ticks of flash acquisition time and maybe a tick of surger chassis. How awesome would it be if like 7 of us crested a hill at the same time and committed a mass explosive ATV attack against an enemy convoy? We need to start working on this.

I have limited play time, but this game is lots of fun.

Playing an engineer in a tank column is very fun. Lots of repairs to be made. Hint to drivers: if someone is repairing you, don’t move! Several times I’ve been run over by the vehicle I was fixing.

Of course, I’ve done my share of vehicular homicide. Cloakers are the biggest problem because I don’t see them. I also destroyed an (enemy) aircraft by running over it.

I don’t know about any exploit, but there are definitely glitches when repairing. Especially permanent turrets at bases. Some of them simply repair instantly. It’s annoying because I don’t get any repair xp from fixing it.

I also have had a lot of problems with falling under the world. It’s not so bad when it’s just myself, but it’s really annoying to lose a tank to a hole in the world.

One thing I found amusing about infiltrators is how they think they are invisible. They are not. Granted, far away enough they are hard to spot, but I’ve bumped into some that were either crouched or just standing in the open just a few yards from me, not moving. I wonder if they were shocked when I shot them in the face.

OTOH I played infiltrator for q while yesterday. The rifle the TR starts with is crap, takes several hits to kill, unless you get a head shot. Somewhere between 3 and 4. There are a couple of bolt action rifles that are cheap-ish to unlock. One comes with iron sights, and the available scoped only go up to 4x. The other has a lot more scope options available. The comparison thing says they are both about equally powerful. I got one and it takes 2 shots to kill, or a head shot.

The same applies for fixing a Max’s armor or a medic healing a soldier. Stand still, why go into battle with less than full health?

When I’m an engineer in a tank column trying to repair tanks I feel like an ant among a bunch of army boots. I try to stay beside the tanks but even that isn’t foolproof.

My impression of the instant turret repair is the turret was incorrectly rendered as damaged when it really wasn’t, and the game resets the model when you start repairing it.

Don’t stand behind tanks, even though they’re being repaired, sometimes enough fire is coming in that it will outdamage your repairs. When that happens sometimes tankers will have to back up fast to get out of there. If you stand to the side you should be ok.
So this weekend I played PS2 probably as much as I played any game in a weekend ever. It’s going to be hard going back to normal XP. I came into friday with 3350 certs total earned and ended this morning with around 6800, more than doubling my total production.

I finished my light (at least until a 2x SC sale) - 3 grenades, 2 C4, max jumpjets, and the as16 automatic sotgun. You are a crazy machine of destruction, especially in a biolab fight.

I pimped out my prowler fairly decently. Speed chassis, halberd secondary, side armor, 2 ranks of deploy, a bunch of ammo upgrades.

I chose 10% reduced side armor instead of 5% frontal because it essentially makes your side armor as good as your front armor, so now you really only have to worry about your rear. Even with head on fights, there are some glancing blows that’ll hit your side armor, and if you’re deployed you can’t adjust your tank slightly to always make sure the front is facing the enemy. So I think side will overall be more useful.

Got speed for the lightning - definitely worth it, that thing flies with the speed chassis.

Got an ammo dispenser and traction chassis for the sunderer.

Got some flash upgrades. Surger chassis for offroading, turbo. I’m eventually going to pimp it completely for jihad flashing with rims and underlights and all that. I’m trying to decide on which performance chassis to get. There’s speed/acceleration, which is great if you’re attacking on the roads and you want it to get there fast, there’s turning/braking/general handling, which would help you stay on target and react to sudden last moves, and there’s offroad handling, which would help if you wanted to attack from unconventional angles and not just down the road. I’m really not sure which to get yet.

Various other minor upgrades.

I’m surprised more people didn’t play with us over the weekend, double XP was crazy (especially if you bought a boost) - I mean, we got plenty of players, I just figured we’d get everyone at least some of the time.

I really wanted to play more but they picked the absolute worst weekend for me. This is finals week and the majority of mine are today. In fact, I am currently massaging my hands because I have another final in about fifteen minutes and my hand is still cramping.

Alright, so I’m going to add some new meaning for our lives.

[The Jihad Flash](The Jihad Flash)

It doesn’t take much. You just need a C4. Better if you can afford 2 C4 since that will take out a full health tank. But one c4 can still take out damaged tanks and groups of infantry. Get a few ticks of flash acquisition time, maybe a performance chassis of some sort.

I’m picturing 8 of us all lined up across the road, or better yet, up on a hill, coming across an enemy convoy. We crest the hill, yell out a battle cry on proximity comms, and then proceed to wreak massive havoc.

Who’s in?

3350! I think I earned about 300 but I only played evenings.

I was disappointed that one C4 won’t blow up a tank or sunderer. And that you have to spend 100 infantry points on each one. Stillnfun though. Should be handy for base attacks where enemies keep coming through the shield to take potshots.

Make sure you’re always spending your infantry points on grenades/c4/medkits/whatever. Never let it stay at 750/750. You can have a maximum of 40 of each item, so whenever you see your infantry bar filling up, buy as many grenades/c4/etc as you can. I have a 50% resource bonus and I have a hard time keeping stocked up.

Res just had an idea for the jihad flashing. We can have multiple people load up the jihad flash with c4, and then I drive directly into the biggest group of enemy I can find, and call over mumble when to detonate it. I’d record from third person, we’d get a huge explosion, and it’d be all sorts of awesome. I totally volunteer for all the suicides.

Senor
that is hilarious.

I also would have played more, but we had a decent storm on the hills with a foot of powder so the weekend was spent on planks. Just had time for a bit last night after suitable post ski lubrication, hence the wildly erratic quadbike driving.
Had a certain ammount of entertainment just cruising around on the quad bike finding the sparsly populated areas and getting into low key firefights. The big battles just tend to be die, spawn, die again, rinse, lather, repeat.

I learned you can MacGuyver explosives! For instance:

1 brick of C4 placed directly on top of an AV mine. If a vehicle rolls over it, it triggers the mine, which sets off the C4. Enough damage to kill a tank. This is useful because generally you need 2 mines, placed as close together as possible, to kill a tank. Before, I thought having 3 mines was kind of redundant, since just damaging a tank with the odd mine doesnt get a kill, and 3 mines on 1 tank are overkill. But with 3 mines+C4, you can potentially kill 2 tanks! Utility pouch upgrades give you even more C4 and mines.

You can also do something similar with the AP mines. An AP mine+C4 can kill a MAX if he trips the mine. This one is more situational.

The nice thing about this is it makes C4 useful for an engineer, who notmally has enough demolitions already. Im probably gonna end up spending hundreds of cert points solely on being a Mad Bomber for the New Conglomerate. I was more of a ‘Wreck it Ralph’ than ‘Fix it Felix’ anyway

Can you get C4 and mines in the same loadout?

No, but you can place mines, go back to a terminal, get C4, and the mines stay until destroyed or you log out.

It seems like fps is based on the number of people in the game, not just in a given area. Playing at 4am I get much bettet fps than prime time. I’ve started putting mines behind the shield at the techplant. Blew up 2 shieldrunning sunderers trying to sneak through.

There’s just something about the AT mines that makes me disproportionately happy when they blow up stuff - was considering getting AP mines with my certs and while that might be useful a lot of times, I’m too lazy to swap my loadout much and having too much fun with the AT mines when I do get to deploy them properly. Just now saw an enemy tank move around an area, dropped some mines on the road and watched it come back, just miss the mines, blow up some of my teammates and then drive back … right into them. BOOM! Yay!

Been reading a PS2 thread on another forum with a lot of whining about tanks being too strong, but I think that’s one of the reasons blowing one up actually feels like an accomplishment as a lowly infantry. I’d rather love to hate them than just destroy them with impunity. I’m more annoyed about the fact doing AA has such crappy rewards as far as xp goes. Dropping one box of ammo to a good spot tends to be better xp than spending 15 minutes trying to keep the skies clear with a Sundy’s basic gun.
