Borderlands

The game gets released well…in a few minutes. I’ve got it preordered, and I’ll be picking it up after work today.

I have the feeling that some folks are really not going to like it because it’s more first-person shooter oriented than, say, Fallout 3, but we’ll see how it plays.

As always, if you have it for the Xbox 360, post your Gamertag or send a Friend request to AAA SDMB, but let me know if you do so I can add you in an expedient manner.

We have to wait until the 23rd (Friday) to get it. I’m mildly interested in the FPS/RPG combo and hope this doesn’t disappoint like Hellgate: London. The game-play videos haven’t exactly inspired me but at the very least it will help fill the gap until Dragon Age: Origins is released.

I’ve played it for about 45 minutes, I got this and Brutal Legend together, and my first opinion is “meh”. I think I need to see if I can re-map the controls as they’re not intuitive for me. The cel-shading also seems oddly disjointed with the atmosphere. I don’t wanna judge it too hard as I haven’t played that far into it, but I’m comparing it against Brutal Legend which immediately pulled me in and had me playing “just 5 minutes more” over and over.

I’m really digging this game so far. I think folks that Liked Morrowind a lot, accepted Fallout 3, and expect something closer to Morrowind than Fallout will be very disappointed. It’s very FPS.

This fucking rocks.

I was thinking about posting that here. That almost sold me on the game right there.

I like it a lot so far. The first hour or two dragged but I got really into it after my first boss battle. I hear it’s the most fun in an online co-op mode but I wanna become competent at the game before I jump into those waters. I’m running Mordecai (sniper) leaning towards making him a pure sniper build. I use an assault rifle as my backup. Just started the first driving mission and the cart controls are not as intuitive as I would like.

Part of my excitement is that this game comes one step closer to my dream game, a FPS MMORPG.

They are apparently making a new planetside so your dream might not be far off. WWII online and planetside were both FPS MMOs that have been out for years.

I thought this was due on PC tomorrow? Was I wrong? I see everyone has it on Monday. Damn, I was looking forward to the weekend.

October 26th for you PC folk.

I have it on X360. Don’t hesitate to play coop. You can select to join with your existing character, so any level building you do in coop will count toward your single player game. The enemies adjust to become stronger as more people are in your game, but you also get more experience on the kills. This game is a blast, it’s a shame so many are turned off by the art style and won’t even give it a chance.

You also get better prizes it you play co-op.

Yes, I also should mention that exp and money are shared on coop. Your guns and ammo are not.

I’d say the quality of this game compares to Fallout 3, but not the mechanics.

I think I’m already in AAA SDMB (“Raza B”). I plan on picking this up at lunch-time today.

So, I’ve been playing this pretty obsessively over the weekend. This is a really good game.

This game, in order to find the really good stuff in a more consistent manner, has to be played co-op.

It’s a first-person shooter, with some very heavy RPG elements. There are many many MANY weapons and powerups to pick up, each with different strengths and weaknesses. The most accurate description of this game would be Call of Duty, as an RPG, with Diablo-esque elements. This game isn’t perfect (sometimes you get stuck in the car, driving around on obstacles that look like they could be driven over, but it’s a very uncommon problem), but this is a very fun game. I can’t recommend it enough. We’ll see if it keeps having momentum past Call of Duty and Dragon Age, though.

I’m currently level 14 (as a hunter/Mordecai) and not feeling any “grind” at all…very much enjoying it. The skill point system (like Talents in WoW) open up a lot practical customization in a game with near-zero visual character customization.

Is the game similar to Fallout 3 the? I was a bit confused by that part. This is one I haven’t really been following, though I’ve seen some commercials on the game from time to time.

Haven’t played Fallout yet, but from what I gather, yes. However, it’s a lot more steeped in the FPS play.
