PlanetSide 2 is out tomorrow peoples!

Maybe they’ll merge low population servers at some point.

Good turnout tonight. We had like 8-11 of us around for 4 hours.

Okay, so there’s a way to get a free 170 SC, and it apparently triples on friday so don’t do it until then, but simply log in with your sony account to some other sony MMOs. http://www.freerealms.com/ and https://www.clonewarsadventures.com/index.action

Everyone should at least get like $10 of SC on friday. I know some of you are broke but triple points day isn’t going to come around often, maybe not even until next christmas, so if you’re ever going to buy anything, throw some money at them now. The walmart cards are the best deal of course but if you don’t want to bother with that, you can still get 3000SC for $10. You can buy a few of your most wanted items, or save it for daily sales/weekly bundles and get a lot for it. I highly recommend spending at least some on it.

I’d also like to see if we can get a lot of people to get the second burster arm with the max. They’re very effective under normal circumstances, but there’s an awesome thing we can do with them.

We load like 8 burster maxes up in a sunderer (they can ride as passengers). We drive through some abandoned areas that are likely to get air traffic but not much else. Enemy aircraft sees free lunch, a sunderer in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly 8 maxes jump out and just utterly annihilate it. Hop back in and repeat.

In my experience with MMO servers it tends to be a case of the rich getting richer and the poor servers getting poorer - people are more likely to join high population servers to join their friends and people on low pop servers switch servers or quit. Unless you start hitting constant queues there’s no downside for high pop server.

They should do their best to just have one giant game world, one server. I don’t know why more MMOs don’t strive for this. The more, the more interesting the experience.

If there are server load concerns, break the game into smaller geographical zones that each server handles, and change the incentives around so that people spread around more.

Wouldn’t ping be a big problem with just one server? Especially for a FPS.

Aren’t names unique across all servers? If so, then server merges won’t cause any heartache. There’s no economy and if there’s no forced renaming, the actual server doesn’t really matter.

Continuing my death by traffic mishap storyline, I was a part of a huge column of ground and air vehicles, driving my sunderer with about 5 crew and passengers. I was headed down a narrow canyon. It had a road, so I was going fairly fast. After since vehicles only take minor damage from collisions, I wasn’t too worried about running into anything.

I didn’t realize there was a hairpin curve near the outlet of the canyon. I almost made the turn, but I bumped a little gully wash. Because of my speed and the curve of the canyon, I ended up driving on the side of the canyon. The physics in this game is awesome! For a little while. Then we rolled over and the sunderer exploded, with total loss of life. :smack: I wish rollovers weren’t catastrophic like that.

I went ahead and got the fully upgraded medic gun yesterday. But I won’t get to play with it for a couple of days because I also bought a new wireless headset, which is currently being a motherfucking bitch. Or the USB drivers are.

So far this game has cost me,

  1. A new graphics card (so I can actually see and shoot things now)
  2. A new web cam where the microphone actually doesn’t sound like an 1890s gramaphone
  3. Several bottles of wine that I would not have drunk if I wasn’t playing this whilst the family is away
  4. About to drop some cash on SC etc

Free to play, my arse!

New videos

My beserker light setup in a biodome
Pre-Jihad Jeep blooper

Can’t remember if I posted this one, but first attempts at flash bombing. Will make better videos later. You guys who don’t have it yet, work on unlocking at least 1 C4 for your favorite class and start buying them with infantry points. Next time we have like 8 people on with it, we should do our mass flash attack.

Which sight improvement do people prefer for the Zepher?

Beef, have other people in the game picked up on this idea of yours, that you’ve noticed?

Beef turned me on to using the IR scope. Effective it is.

Love the videos, SenorBeef. I sometimes try to take screenshots but they never do any justice to what is really going on - the explosions, the cries for medics, repair and ammo, the spotting shouts and the whoosh of fighters zooming past. And the jihad bikes blowing you up.

Infrared, by far.

Which idea?

The Jihad Jeeps. Or as I like to call it, the Flash Mob.

DOUBLE XP FROM THE 21ST TO THE 2ND! which is perfect because thats the two weeks I get the house to myself. Gonna buy two 1 week xp boosters, and combined with my premium bonus, rake in the xp!

I’m a little concerned about the double XP 2 weeks. I think it may be their attempt to boost population density rather than a merge, so that puts that off for weeks at least. It also comes off as a little bit desperate.

Between the 3x SC sale and the double XP weekend, people are going to advance in gear massively very quickly. I’m going to lose a lot of the edge I have as a dedicated player, since the first few levels of anything increase the effectiveness of stuff more than the last tiers, but oh well, the f2p players are so awful at life and video games that I’m sure I’ll be ok anyway. But I wonder if it’s good for the long term health of the game. People can’t just play a game anymore because it’s fun - no they have to turn it into a job where they “grind” and “farm” unlocks as their main goal. At first I thought the game was way too stingy with certs, but in retrospect, if you want to keep people playing, you need to give them things to keep driving towards for a long time.

Yeah its bad enough some people just have more time than others and will get more XP, but all these boosts will just accelerate the divide. Oh well it just means casual players will have to play smarter.

I would argue double xp helps casuals, since it costs nothing but gives access to stuff that might take much longer to acquire. Triple station cash and sales mean more people will buy weapons, which will let the devs get more data they can use to balance the game further.

I agree the game is getting grind-y but what I love is the open endedness of it. As people acculate more certs/upgrades, more bugs and balance changes will happen. For example, why is Thermal 200 certs, but IR only 50 and better overall? Once people start seeing the full effectiveness of many of these upgrades.

There’s also supposed to be a major patch in the works in January, and I’m betting they will use the data from all these players going nuts with weapons and upgrades to make further improvements.

Sure, the actual disparity in certs might increase, but the fact is going from 0 to 500 certs is far bigger upgrade than going from 5000 to 5500 or even 6000. Getting the first scope, first unlocked explosive, upgrading your main tool a bit and getting a few ranks of some defensive armor upgrade are the critical parts, not a hardcore player going from 7.5% bonus to fire rate to 10% on a tank main gun.
