PlanetSide 2 is out tomorrow peoples!

Which guns are actually worth buying? Like, which ones are not strictly sidegrades?

Smedley directly confirmed it in Twitter.

AFAIK, infantry stuff is mostly sidegrades (except things like getting AA launchers or AA Bursters for MAXes) while vehicles have real upgrades. Of course, there’s stuff like getting a shotgun for the carbine classes means you’ll have a better short range gun. Oh, and the slower-rate-of-fire, higher-damage sniper rifles are better than the basic stuff.

Most of them have a slight strength/weakness. They are rarely completely better than the defaults. Though the HEAT gun for the Lighning tank makes it overall better. Some guns also have access to more upgrades (like an underslung grenade launcher).

If you want a REALLY good deal, you can then take all that hoarded-up station cash, and buy stuff when it goes on sale/in bundles. Thats what I’m planning I also like that you can buy cards in advance, and get 3x when you redeem them on that day.

And we cab finally spend smedbucks on vehicle horns! Now they just need to sell the ability to wave your middle finger outside the drivers side window. I’m tired of tankers rear-ending my sunderer and not exchanging insurance info!

That’s my plan, actually. I’ll buy a few things that I’ve been wanting right off the bat, but I’ll save half my SC for the daily sales, so then I take paying 25% of normal price and reduce it to 12.5%.

Picked up one of the wal mart cards today. I’m tempted to get another but I dont know if there’s some limit on the +500 station cash. I figure by planning it out carefully I can unlock pretty much every gun I want by the end of the month. That way I can hoard my cert points for those sweet, sweet upgrades.

I’m rather curious how the metagame will evolve as people naturally accrue more certs. In the next couple months it will be quite feasible to max out the upgrades on vehicles. They will need to continuously release content to keep the game interesting.

Pretty sure there’s no limit, they just redeem for 2000 points.

So I had a thought. Subscribers pay $12-15 a month for a 25-50% bonus to xp, passive cert gain, resource gain, and queue priority (and early access to new cosmetic items). The xp gain is the big one though.

If you were to get a $15 walmart card for the 3x day, then you’d get 6000 points. 6000 points would buy you 3 months of 50% boost. Or $5 per month for 50% xp boost. That’s definitely worthwhile. I may have to go full f2p retard and buy another card.

They said they based Planetside 2’s free to play model off League of Legends, so I think this comic is appropriate

Just got 2 cards. Going to bling out my vehicles.

Yeah, well, that’s the kick with f2p models. You get a bunch of freeloaders and the people really a lot.

I’m gonna end up spending like $120, which is a lot for a game, but not much for an MMO. $60+$15x4 = 4 months of MMO, but in planetside 2’s case it’s likely all the money I ever spend. I’m stocking up on points now on the 3x day specifically because I want to have enough to last me as long as ps2 goes.

If you ever plan on spending money, now is the time - on the 21st. It’s never going to be a better deal than that. And it may not come around for several months to a year. So get what you want now, and save some for future developments or daily sales.

Various forums say that Walmart is selling out of the cards btw, which matches my experience (one empty, one had like 6 left), so if you want them, grab now.

Another weird entity in the metagaming involved in F2P gaming, I suspect there’s going to be at least twice as much AA fire after the 21st as there is now, as everyone buys at least one AA system. That’s one of the weird quirks of F2P… balance can come from pricing as much as weapon capabilities.

Also, anyone who wants to do lib runs as the zephyr gunner, please use this opportunity to buy your own. Since the gunner role is so much better than everything else unfortunately now, it seems only fair that if you want someone to give you a run in their gun, you should be able to reciprocate.

As a freeloader, it makes me happy other people are spending money so the game is a success. I kinda wonder how their income will be say 6 months from now when the first wave has already gotten all the essential stuff - I guess they have to figure out new things to sell for station cash every now and then, but if your vehicles and MAX already have anti-infantry, anti-tank and anti-air options, what else is there? Selling aircraft carrier piloting licenses for 1000 USD each?

I think at that point people are going to start having different loadouts for the specific situations (outdoor attack, outdoor defense, indoor attack, etc).

Last night I goofed around on my Vanu character on Connery. First, Connery has a better population than Genudine, which sucks, because there are no character transfers. It’s a much better server - at least for one sample. Second, it’s interesting to see that the people there are much more spendy than on Genudine. I’d estimate that the number of people on Genudine that have a cosmetics like camo, helmets, etc. is around 10-20%. On Connery it was around 70%. I don’t know what that means exactly, except that Genudine is hobotown.

They had a lot more of the expensive weaponry on Connery too, and some high cert unlocks (I got ressed a few times by level 6 medic applicators which you never see on Genudine).

Not sure why that would be, just thought it was interesting. It’s too bad they don’t allow character transfers, or the player base could solve the population density issues ourselves.

My guess is they will be allowed sooner or later. 1500 Station Cash, or something like that.

It would annoy me if they were paid transfers - I’d be willing to pay, but I know we play with some people who never would, even if it was a few bucks, which would put us in the awkward position of either playing the inferior server and getting a less fun game experience or splitting our group up. I hope they’d give at least 1 free transfer.

Remember that just because a server is “better” right now is no indication it will stay that way for long. One sample is much too small to make such a judgment, in any case.

I’ve been monitoring server loads (imprecisely) for over a week for my thread about server merges. Connery is the most populous US West server. I’m only working with the low/medium/high categories they give, but even then connery hits medium faster, earlier in the day, and loses it later at night, so it almost certainly has more overall population.
