Vanu is better no question, if you meant whose equipment is most powerful. But most of us have sunk an hundred+ hours and real money into our TR characters, so we’re not going to switch on a permanent basis. If I play my vanu on the side, it’ll be to scratch the planetside 2 itch while I wait for them to do something to get our TR characters off a dying server.
Post the link in the thread if you do, s’il vous plait.
I’ve been playing this some with a friend of mine from the UK. (So we’re on one of the EU servers, Ceres, which is doing okay population-wise as far as I can tell. Not great, but okay.) I thought the recent PR event was handled…poorly, though once they got the livestream working it did look pretty cool. You just don’t get to see a formation of 20 Galaxies all that often. I saw reports in the official forums that the in-game lag was pretty bad for those who were participating on Connery during the Bastion fight; what was your experience like?
The thing is - the game only renders a certain number of units at a time or your client would lag too badly in huge fights. Normally this isn’t an issue - in a medium sized skirmish you see everyone, in a large fight you might only see guys within 40 yards of you - but with 2000 people crammed into one base, the render distance becomes absurd. There are times when units are popping into my sight at 10 feet.
It was interesting to be a part of history, but not great gameplay. But some of the stuff was pretty funny. But that’s just an extreme situation, cramming 2000 guys into one base. Under normal full circumstances, with 2000 people spread over a few large fights, the game handles it pretty well.
Not been arround for a while (work and all that fun stuff)
So are we sticking with TR on Genudine until we hear something different related to server merging/swapping etc?
Yeah, no major changes have been made yet. I’ve been playing alternate characters more often, but that doesn’t change where our mains are.
Again sorry gang to have been MIA so much lately.
WORK IS KILLING ME.
Not really, but it is keeping me very, very busy. I hope to crash Galaxies with a load of you inside soon.
Big update #2 just hit. It’s a big download, around 3gb, so start downloading it in the background if you want to play soon.
They did change a lot of stuff. I still saw spawn camping going on, but maybe a better term is spawn area suppression. I think that’s really the fault of the defenders, fight better or spawn elsewhere. With no death penalty people just keep tilting at the windmill.
The building redesigns are nice, Indar felt like a new place. And I didn’t expect them to move the warp gates, that really shook things up.
I do and don’t like the new XP display. I feel like it’s an ad for boosts. But they don’t know how cheap and patient I am. Also I like minimal HUDs and I’m already used to the XP gain rate. Seemed about the same or maybe a little faster. I sometimes got XP for shooting libs with a turret gun, sometimes not with the same amount of shooting. And I was hacking a bunch of turrets, got XP at first but then it quit giving it to me. Might have been intentional to keep infiltrators from farming base assets for XP.
Speaking of turrets, they were buggy last night, they quit doing any damage at some point. Same with big tank guns. Hopefully that’s fixed by now.
Today I will go back to Amerish and see how that’s changed. Haven’t checked out tunnels or anything yet. Hopefully the FPS issues will be better, oh and the blinking textures issue isn’t gone.
I’ve been lazy about editing my ps2 videos, I have like a 2 month backlog that I’ll never get around to clearing out, but I’m posting random videos here and there. New ones:
First attempt at a gate crasher sunderer last night
You can deflect grenades with bullets - maybe
15 minutes of dual mercy game play with a cool battle from TI alloys to the crown back to TI alloys
Stumbling across scatmaxes frollicking in the desert
Prowler+engineers stop NC zerg
Some prowler rape with the goofy unfixed post-patch deploy velocities
First flash death race after they flipped the warp gates
And a really dumb one, something weird from when I got way too drunk.
Are people still playing?
I’ve been away most of the last month because of inordinate busyness, but I’ll be back.
Fantastic news my nuggets.
I’ve been raising a big deal about it in the sony forums, but I don’t think the devs care there. I started getting some busy threads on the reddit and suddenly this comes out. I’m going to claim credit for all of it.
Pre-merger, while there’s still a big lul in the action, we should do some of the goofy novelty stuff that makes good videos that we were thinking about. Like:
-
Sunderer clown car of doom. Load up a sunderer with as many AA maxes as we can - people with the stock 1 burster arm are not ideal but they can still add to the firepower - drive down some abandoned road somewhere, wait for enemy aircraft to target us, and then all pop out and instantly destroy them.
-
Shield runner sunderer runs. The old perfect opportunity, using it at a crowded tech plant, has faded away, but there are still ways to enjoy it. The underside of a busy biolab fight, bursting in, killing everyone, and then camping the teleporters. Driving in one side of the tech plant side doors and out the other and then repeat, leaving destruction in our wake each time. Other ideas?
-
Get my prowler up into a biolab. More if we can do it. You can use a galaxy to very carefully lift a tank to a biolab, and mine with HE rounds and deploy and all that could absolutely wreak havoc in one. We could have a team of engineers repairing it constantly and guarding it from c4 over the top.
-
Mass jihad jeep attacks. We’ve had a few but we didn’t get many good ones, and now people have more time to have gotten C4 unlocked to join us. Plus a few flash acquisition times would help too.
-
Galaxy clown car of doom. Same idea as the sunderer, except when our galaxy gets to like 10% hp, we land and all hop out and shoot down the fighters chasing us. It’ll be like they’ve hit stage 2 in a boss fight.
Give me your ideas.
Alright, so Friday night I’m going to try to organize us to do these goofy things. We were starting to do it tonight but we only had 5 guys on - a lot of this stuff needs 8+ to really work.
If you do a shieldbreaking run, be sure to play the theme for A-Team on your mic whike charging into the base ![]()
An A-Team camo job for a Sunderer would be awesome
I figured that’s how it was going to shake out. I hate to complain since this is what I wanted, but Genudine/Helios are still going to have the least populated server. In the east, a #1 got merged with #4, #2 with #3, two high pops merged with 2 low pops. In the west, #2 gets merged with #3 - two low pops merged together. End result is that Heliodyne (they should’ve named it that, it sounds sci-fi) is still going to be the smallest server.
Still, it should be a big improvement.
Edit: depending on cost and the feelings of the group, I may still want to transfer in March.
Seams to be a lot of patches - there was a 20meg one yesterday , another 30meg today. The update can be quite slow so anyone wanting to get ontonight might consider updating early.
Did a lot of AA ambushing stuff last night that actually went pretty well. The main problem was that my original intent was to drive around our sunderer somewhere out in the middle of nowhere (so there are no enemy tanks to worry about) but was still on a flight path for enemy aircraft. So they’d see us, start to attack, we’d all pop out and they’d be instantly destroyed. The weird thing was, though, aircraft were either too dumb to notice us or didn’t care to attack a 10 man sunderer in the middle of nowhere. So we were having trouble baiting them. It worked a few times, but mostly we ended up just sitting outside their warpgate shooting down aircraft as they left it. Which was also fun, but not quite what I was going for.
The galaxy drop idea was working better, we just need to get the technique down. A couple of times we tried it we got caught in a bad situation - once we were too close to enemy ground forces so if we dropped we’d have been shredded by tanks, a couple of times we were on very uneven ground so we dropped all over different parts of a ravine which split is up a lot. In the future, what I think will work is making a more sneaky flight path to get past the front lines and then fly over the flat areas of the northern deserts. That way when we’re attacked, we’ll be away from ground forces and over even ground. Then we can jump very early in the attack, when the enemy fighter is close enough to destroy but while our galaxy is still at like 90% hp. I’m hoping we can work on that tonight.
For now, 2 vids.
Scythe takes us out like a boss as we play at the vanu warpgate
