PlanetSide 2 is out tomorrow peoples!

I also bought things to help with vertical and horizontal recoil. Oh, and soft point bullets. I hg haven’t tried c4, but everyone I know who has loves it.

Engineers are probably better off with mines than C4. C4 is better for a class like light. Tank mines for the engineer are more useful (you can actually run up to and place them on a vehicle and get them to explode - making them more useful than C4 for that purpose), but claymores are more free kills even though they’re incredibly cheesy to use and should never be in any game ever.

Oh yeah, those were on my shopping list as well - do you notice a clear difference with them? Sometimes it feels like my engineer’s gun is completely pointless, then next I know I’m on a killing spree so upgrading the gun more might be nice as well.

For some reason I never kill anybody with a grenade though, except maybe friendlies. Too used to Borderlands 2’s homing grenades I guess.

I haven’t noticed a difference with my soft-points, but I’m killing more, so there’s that. I have the trac-5 gun (the upgraded) that I really like. I did notice that the recoil is a lot easier to handle now. If I go full burst and empty 3/4 a mag control is still hard to manage, but up close, where I like to be, I can keep on target long enough to take someone down.

Soft points in their current implementation apparently actually reduce damage from like 0-10m, increase them for 10-30m, and decrease against past 30. Not sure if it’s a glitch or intentional.

Well I gave it a try earlier- this may be what will finally pushes me to upgrade the video card (well actually install one)
I am precambrianclam on Genuedine as TF

I die a lot

Welcome to the club. In all honesty, there’s no way I’m going to remember your name in game, so find me. Same name there as here.

Well this is going to be a massive time sink. Spent a few hours running around Indar.

I got a 3 or 4x crosshair scope for my engineer gun and I am fairly dangerous at medium to long ranges. Close up is not good through the scope so I rely on the crappy on-screen crosshairs. I wish you could see the scope reticle before you buy it.

I’m horrid at those ranges so I picked up the 2x reflex sight. It’s been working well for me for those close engagements.

I picked up AT mines. I’m rather “meh” about them. I haven’t been able to deploy them successfully, but the mines take the slot of the ammo package. I feel being able to deploy ammo is more important than anti-tank.

I got the 2x reflex sights too since those do not make it slower to zoom and the carbine is kinda crappy at longer ranges so getting a better scope would just mean I can better see where all my misses are going.

As for ammo package, you can deploy one even if you don’t have it equiped by pressing 5 for the Mana Turret, then press “B” for alternative fire and voíla - ammo package. Weird but it works.

What Senor said, plus SOE has Station Cash x3 sales every couple of months, and x2 every couple of weeks. So only buy SC at those times, use that for weapons and certs for upgrading (things are much cheaper at 1/3 the price obviously).

I think I will go for AT grenades. I can lob those from safety. I hate placing mines, it drives me crazy when tanks don’t oblige me by driving over them.

Is there a brief tutorial page or something. I played last-night, and while it was fun, there was definately a decent chunk of the game mechanics that I didn’t grok*.

All I could find on the official webpage were tutorial videos, which I don’t really have the patience to sit through.

*(huh, my spell checker knows the word “grok” but not the word “movie”)

Dont bother with the AP grenades, they’re not worth it I hear. The mines can kill any vehicle with 2; you can throw them at parked enemy sunderers and blow them up! Plus they are supposed to last for a long time.

What determines the xp rate for ams spawns? I deployed an upgraded sunderer, and was getting 3xp per spawn, heard it was more.

I also noticed you get DOUBLE xp/tick (15xp for me) for repairing maxes. Friendly Maxes are great xp food for engineers; they burn through ammo/get dented pretty fast.

Do you mean AT grenades?

For most/all things you get more XP if it is your squad; spawning, repairing, resupplying, healing, etc.

Well, there’s the tutorial videos, and there’s playing on voice chat with the rest of us.

well I think I got mumble working - by which time everboy had left

Well good that you got it, you’ll have it ready for tomorrow.

We did well tonight. We played on Esamir where we haven’t had much of a chance to play. There was a two pronged attack to push both of the other factions off the continent, and the SDMB squad lead the southern attack against the vanu. We systematically pushed them back with a few good battles, another outfit pushed the NC back up top, and I saw my first win of a continent.

We did our first shield crasher sunderer run into a tech plant although things were already flipping in our favor, but it’s a very cool thing to do and we should look into doing that.

Clarification please…does anything special happen when you win a continent?

Also what is a shield crasher sunderer? Glitching through a shield or something?
