Do we have a sort of cheat sheet for where to put certs? I gather that there are some obvious ones that are less a matter of preference and more you’d-be-a-fool-not-to type ones.
Well in post #117 I talked about the super obvious ones, but I’ll look through and post something today about the tiers after that.
But mostly there’s diminishing returns on costs. Rank 1 of something may improve you 10% for 30 certs, then rank 2 12.5% for 50 certs, rank 3 15% for 100 certs, etc. So your most cost effective route is to get a broad base of the tier 1 stuff. Some stuff gives you the same boost per upgrade (like jumpjets, prowler deploy) but the costs keep going up.
So it’s a good idea to get all the basic stuff to give you a well rounded viable player before you start choosing how to specialize and buying the expensive stuff. I’m not looking to unlock any iinfantry weapons until I get a well rounded set of general class/vehicle upgrades.
Oh, sorry, just didn’t see that post somehow. Thanks.
Concur, sights are ridiculously useful. I put a 4x sight and Compensator on my LMG, which has loads of vertical recoil, and I could make snipers’ lives hell any time they poked their heads over a ridge.
I paid them $10 last night and wound up using 700 of the 1000 station cash that gave me on an anti-air rocket launcher for the heavy. The aircraft were really raping us last night, pilots are getting quite good. I’m happy to report the AA launcher works fairly well.
One of the shotguns is on sale on the depot page for the next 10 hours for 350 SC. From what I understand, you can use shotguns for all classes except infiltrator, so it may be worth having one. Not sure if it’s a good one though but you can trial it.
A couple gripes. First of all, why does it suggest you respawn halfway across the map? Secondly, “Generator destroyed” doesn’t tell you which generator was destroyed.
How do you destroy a generator, with small arms fire or does it have to be explosives?
The first spawn location listed is the last one your squad leader spawned from, otherwise they’re done by proximity.
I am ridiculously addicted to this game. I actually racked up like 500 certs today. Got jumpjets 4 and 5, grenade pouch suit for light assault, extended mag for AS16, and some other stuff I can’t even remember. I highly recommend the extra grenade capacity rather than suit armor - in the right situation it’s ridiculous. There was a point today where we were fighting over a tech lab (actually, we defended it against an assaulting force twice our size for about 3-4 hours) when it was close quarters in the building. I’d throw my 2 grenades at the enemy position, run back to the sunderer, reload, and repeat - I threw like 20 grenades in a 5 minute span and probably got 60 or 70 kills. Love me some frag grenades.
We had some really cool air runs late night once Interconnected Series of Tubes was around. At one point we came across a minor skirmish at an amp station - the enemy attacking force of about 10 people were winning it over. We flew down low to get an angle to attack their sunderer in the main spawn room and killed all but 3 in the process, including the sunderer. So now they couldn’t spawn, but they still had 3 people on the actual capture point and our teammates on the ground were useless. So we actually parked on the aircraft pad, ran in there ourselves, and finished the last 3 off to save the point.
Then we went up to a biolab where they were in the main spawn room below the base as people inexplicably tend to do, flew down right on top of them and killed like 6 guys in a sunderer in 2 mags of the zeph.
I’ve got footage, I’ll go through it tomorrow.
Oh and a couple more videos for now.
Prowler kills 2 reavers in 10 seconds
And… you know how when you first start a new character, it gives you a quick introduction video and then says “nearing drop zone now” and then just drops you into a hotspot with a drop pod? Well, some guy goes through that, gets halfway through his first pod drop… and… lands on my liberator and dies. He then quit the game, possibly permanently, instead of realizing how awesome that is.
Yeah I noticed they are sorted by distance but then it often picks the third or fourth one down as the default. Maybe that is where the squad leader last spawned. Really I would like my last spawn location to be the default.
I need to practice with grenades more. In other games I am a great grenade lobber, but the grenade trajectories in this game are off somehow, to the detriment of my team!
I’m rather enjoying the HE rounds on the prowler. Mutton and I last night went on a run on esamir and killed like 40 infantry in one run with it, had to keep going back to base to restock ammo. Thinking about unlocking the rocket launcher for the gunner spot to make up for the loss in antitank power. The HE rounds still do enough damage to armor that combined with the rocket launcher it seems like you might be able to hold your own against armor.
The HE round on the lightning on the other hand hasn’t impressed me too much. I was pretty good at killing infantry with the lightning’s default gun, and I was hoping the HE rounds would be a similar 6 shot gun, just with more explosive power. But instead it’s a slow firing 105mm gun. Which can’t even kill infantry in one hit unless it’s a direct hit.
On the other hand, it has its uses - like if you’re killing a sunderer, it may take 10-12 shots, but if people are spawning from it you’re going to rack up 10 kills in the process of killing it.
Ended up going dual burster max for anti-air. Gotta spend 1000 certs to double magazine capacity to make them great, although they’re pretty effective at default. The TR max default loadout is so boring anyway that I rarely use it, so I guess I can pull out the max to defend AMS from aircraft.
Thinking of getting the shield runner upgrade for the sunderer soon - will be awesome when we load it up with 12 people and conduct surprise base attacks.
I was a big fan of the original Planetside.
How fast to cert point accumulate? What do you think is the most cost-effective way to get cert points? Get a 3/6/12 month subscription? Wait till Station Cash goes on sale?
I played for 8 hours yesterday. It’s safe to say I’m hooked. And one thing I’ve discovered is that the punishing grind is actually a plus for me. I used to play a lot of COD and I would stop whenever doing yet another prestige and unlocking the same guns became unappealing. Here, some of the updates are so steep that there’s going to be something new to struggle towards for a long time.
The subscription model works like this. If you subscribe month to month, you start with a 25% experience/resource/passive cert gain* bonus. Every month you stay subscribed, it adds 5%, so month 2 is 30%, month 3 is 35%, etc. It caps out at 150%.
If you prepay for a subscription, you get whatever the last month of that subscription would be right away, but it doesn’t increase. So if you prepay 3 months, you get +35% from day one, but it stays at 35% all 3 months - you won’t get more until month 4, where if you buy another 3 months it instantly jumps to 150%, or if you start doing month to month you’d get 140%.
It’s also cheaper to prepay - $15 per month, $13 per 3 months, $12 per 6 months, $10 per year.
You also get 500sc ($5 worth) per month only if you leave auto-renew on. You can cancel your subscription 1 day before it’s up, but if you buy 6 months and then cancel the resub immediately, no 500sc per month for you.
So the 6 months pre-sub gets you the max (50%) bonus, the only benefit from a year is lower per-month fees. I knew I’d be playing this game for at least 6 months so I went ahead and did that.
If you just want more certs, take the 500sc they give you each month, figure out which week of that month you’ll be able to put in the most gaming time, and then buy a 7 day experience boost. With this combo you’ll be earning a 100% bonus.
- Passive cert gain is something everyone gets over time, it’s not terribly significant at like 10-15 a day, but maybe it’s cool to get it on characters you don’t otherwise play much.
I think there’s a 2 day maximum on passive gain. So make sure you log into your alts every couple of days.
You know what would be totally badass? Load up a galaxy with twelve light assault, fly over a target, then all jump out. At the very end engage the jet pack so there is no damage.
Quick reaction force.
I don’t believe anybody takes damage when falling from a Galaxy.
Any ideas what to buy with certs for an Engineer? I’ve upgraded my repair tool a few times, upgraded my hp and gotten a reflex scope for the peashooter. Mostly curious about the various AT tools they can get, like C4, AT mines and AT grenades - are any of those good?
I run into a weird problem recording footage of this game. I flip the recorder on anytime anything awesome is happening. And then when I go through the footage to see what’s worth posting to youtube, I think “Is this awesome? Does it look cool?” “Yes, there are tanks rolling over infantry, big infantry squads advancing up the plane, planes being shot down in the background, explosions everywhere, LASERS PEW PEW” “Is it uniquely awesome though, worth posting in a video?” “Probably not”
It’s just that… those epic moments that are worth recording come along in other games every once in a while. But with this game, those epic moments are happening like 40% of the time. If I posted all of it, I would just essentially be posting normal gameplay footage over and over again.
Not my video, but awesome.
