Planned Parenthood defunded in NH!

They tried to do the same thing here in Indiana and did take away all of the funding for awhile, but as of right now it got overturned, but I don’t think the final word has been set. They need to declare it unconstitutional and tell all the states to fucking drop it… I’m tired as hell of worrying about it.

You offering?

A BJ or a job? 'Cause right now, it’s be a tough call for me. Also, screw off-- this is a shitty economy. Six months and all I can find is a sub-minimum wage job where my boss tries to short me on hours and bounces checks. God only knows how someone with a family to support can do it.

He’s quoting Senator Jon Kyl.

I got pregnant after a tubal ligation … 10 years after. :smack:

Luxury! I got pregnant, and I’m not even a woman! What? We’re not doing the Four Yorkshiremen sketch? Oops. My bad…

The point of PP is to help people who, either because they’re too poor or too uneducated, “plan” when they become “parents” (the clue is in the name) by providing not just contraception (and, in a small minority of case, abortions) but advice and education. I know there are people who think that educating people about sex consists of handing them a porn tape and a tube of lube and reminding them to yell “Yeehah!” at climax but they actually do good and important work.

But I suppose you all knew that already.

Which makes more sense and is less callous when the organization that provides a sliding scale for contraceptives, as well as other important health care isn’t completely hamstrung.

If the state wanted to make sure that Planned Parenthood received no state funding, then that’s one thing – this kind of thing will likely to be overturned by the courts in most of the ways the states are doing it, but you know, if it’s that important to keep money out of Planned Parenthood’s hands, that’s a way to go.

But to make it impossible for them to even write prescriptions for people to take elsewhere, or dispense medications, that’s when it goes beyond “no state money for an abortion provider” into a completely dick move that says that they don’t give a flying fuck about the health and wellbeing of the women of the state. They’re just power tripping because they can, and everyone who isn’t living with state-provided health insurance can get fucked.

Or rather, don’t, because now the one source of contraceptives accessible to all people, regardless of income, is gone.

They’re sure…

Man, I love the way this new Republican Party prioritizes fiscal sanity and stays out of social issues.

And jobs! They’re really front-loading the job creation, aren’t they?

Just imagine how many new jobs for day care workers this will create!

Alternatively, if your blood pressure goes up at the idea of someone, somewhere, getting a free condom, you probably need to get laid.

What, and defy the commandments of the Apostle Paul?

Not bloody likely.

Have whackjob conservatives really gained that much of an upper hand in the northern states? Of course, I was also surprised at the amount of bigotry I saw in Maine during their last election, so maybe I’m just out of the political loop.

In other PP news, their office in Raleigh was vandalized last night.

Did they also cut off public funding for hospitals which perform abortions?

I don’t know about its state politics but NH is one of the reddest northeastern states in the national elections. If their state politics are typically Republican as well, social wackjobs could have easily slid under the radar and have gotten elected by people who vote Republican no matter what.

Not knowing anything about New Hampshire politics, does this body have the authority to “overturn” legislative appropriations? Their website is a bit vague in the same sense that Jon Kyl was a bit wrong.

To be fair, this governing body is empowered with the ability to overrule the legislative body on certain matters. If it were to just rubber stamp what the Legislature wants, it would serve no functional purpose.

I guess which leads the question: what is their functional purpose? Maybe this is what you were getting at in your post, but, seriously, by what power does an entity that’s not head of another branch of government have at overruling the vote of the legislature? How is that even possible?

No. It doesn’t affect money given to anyone but Planned Parenthood specifically. Anyone else who was providing contraceptives or abortions is apparently still doing a fine job. Mostly because they’ve just been told that PP is in league with the devil and that’s good enough for them.

Off topic, but while that passage gets used by plenty of fundamentalistic mysogynists, Fear Itself, Ephesians 5 isn’t really like that. The rest of the chapter contains the commands for the husband making it far more equal. It’s just that the assholes stop reading at verse 24.

By getting a ‘real’ job of course! As I understand it tax accountants’ assistants are like gods among pobes.

Jobs, man! That’s what Boner said he was going to focus on! And we’ve got them in this thread! A short ways in and we’re already talking about the blow-kind.
