So I’ve decided that 1.5Mbps is not a fast enough connection, and the $52/mo my ISP wants for 24.5Mbps is too much, so I decided to investigate bundling internet with my DIRECTV. They can offer 25Mbps for $30/mo.
Sounds good, but my wife’s email @dslextreme.com will no longer be accessible. How should I go about archiving her current inbox so those emails remain available to her?
Where is she planning to transfer her email to? As you can now see using an ISP email address means you change email addresses every time you change ISPs. So it is a good idea to use something like Gmail. There are going to be methods to transfer her emails to Gmail. [Gmail offers 15 GB storage).
While I agree with PastTense on the impact changing ISP’s has on e-mail service, I disagree with the contention that a service like gmail is the way to go.
Gmail is convenient and free but I personally dislike the known quantity that Google is scanning my gmail messages. Yes, I’ll concede that Google isn’t targeting me in any way, but I have this privacy bug up my butt. My ISP doesn’t care about my e-mail activities. They even occasionally remind me that they are not the repository for the sum total of human knowledge, so would I please clean out my e-mail box?
What you have here is an opportunity. Go register a domain name for yourselves, then set that domain to forward emails to your new ISP. (Mine forwards to GMail.)
