Plant ID please

Came up in my back yard. About 5’ high right now. My google-fu is exhausted.

Thanks

Some sort of Solanum. (Sorry, can’t be more spocific.)

Possibly chokecherry, but hard to tell from that photo.

Thanks, that gives me someplace to start. Trying to decide if I should pull it.

Here’s a better pic of the leaves if that helps.

Looking at the online pics it doesn’t seem like chokecherry. Solanum looks more like it but there sure are lot of them.

It’s near our bird feeder. Could it have been from commercial bird seed?

I agree. It definitely is in the nightshade family.

FWIW Google Lens thinks it might be Solanum douglasii.

Yep, a nightshade. Thanks everyone.

Try Plant Snap. Free app for your phone, works great:

Solanum nigrum, the European black nightshade or simply black nightshade, or blackberry nightshade?

CMC fnord!

I get that in my back yard and it’s wicked invasive–choked out basically every other plant I tried to grow. Nasty stuff.

I have some of it, too. I consider it a weed and pull it out, but I don’t get tons of it. I agree it looks like a nightshade, but don’t know it’s personal name.

Pretty sure it’s Frank.

Snap off a branch. Does it smell bad?

But, yeah, I’d yank it w/o hesitation.

Frank’s not here, man.

Oh, and the stuff is pretty poisonous so wear gloves and/or wash your hands after you mess with it. And it comes back really easily so dispose of it off your property–put it in a compost pile and you’re likely to have a grove of the shit. I’m pretty sure the gigantic tuberous root I dug up was from this shit that got enormous, the root was about the size and weight of a bowling ball. What I’m saying is, probably best not to tolerate it unless you want nothing but that in your yard.

Thanks!
