Plasma TV adds pale yellow to B&W movies

I got a Samsung PN58A550 (58-inch plasma HDTV) about six weeks ago, and I’ve noticed something that I find annoying.

I often watch B&W movies, mostly on Turner Classic Movies. (I have Verizon FIOS). There seems to be quite a lot of compression of their signal, and a lot of banding in the gray scales. That’s annoying, but I don’t suppose there’s much I can do about it. (Please correct me if I’m wrong.)

But certain middle shades are rendered by the set as a pale shade of yellow. It’s very annoying. The weird thing is that even if I drop the color setting all the way down to 0, it’s still there. Slightly less obvious, but there.

I also see it, but less obviously, in B&W programs from DVD.

Is this common to all Samsungs? All plasmas? Is it a flaw in mine? Something that I can fix?

(I’ve already asked this question at the AVS Forum, but haven’t gotten a response yet.)

Thanks.
