(This has probably been done before).
I’ve heard that more people think that Lennon’s *Plastic Ono Band *album has better music on it than Double Fantasy.
I beg to differ. These three songs are better (IMHO) than any of the ones found on POB.
“(Just Like) Starting Over”
“Watching the Wheels”
“Woman”
What do you think?
I think Double Fantasy is a great album overall but it just doesn’t have the power of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. ‘Mother’, ‘Working Class Hero’ and ‘I Found Out’ are all amazing, the only song on the level with them from Double Fantasy is, in my opinion, ‘Watching The Wheels’.
Plastic Ono Band all the way. Killer album, full of raw feeling. “I’m Losing You” is the only John track on Double Fantasy that compares. “Watching the Wheels” and “Woman” are nice tunes, and they obviously meant a lot to John, but they came out too polished and too uncomfortably close to easy listening in their arrangements. He should have paid more attention to what Yoko was up to on her tunes–apart from that hokey “I’m Your Angel” song, her stuff was a lot edgier and more relevant to 1980 than John’s.
No love for Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)?
Makes me cry. Every damn time.
The lines that get me every time in ‘Beautiful Boy’ are:

I think they are both wonderful albums for different times in a life.
