Yes, they can. They just need to get it from the City itself and show a just reason WHY they need to go packing heat. “My dick is small and I have to compensate by carrying a gun” just is not going to cut it, you actually need to have a real reason to need the gun. Pretty reasonable to me.

The fact that the city seems to think that a law abiding citizen needs a reason to be allowed to carry a gun IS the problem. What part of “right” do you not understand? If the city of New York decides that you’re an idiot, and everything you (generic you, not you, Death of Rats) say is stupid, is it reasonable for them to make you shut up until you provide them with a reason you should be allowed to speak? If you (specific you) answer yes, well, fine, you’re consistent. If you say no, then why is it OK to restrict your 2nd Amendment rights that way but not your 1st Amendment rights?
Is this really the place for yet another 2nd Amendment diatribe/debate?
The facts are these:*
- NYC forbids carrying handguns without a license, does not recognize out of city licenses (including NYS), and does not freely license residents to carry handguns**
- That law, to date, has not been ruled unconstitutional. I don’t know if it has been tested. Being found guilty of breaking this law results in a mandatory 3.5 year prison sentence
- Plaxico Burress was carrying a handgun in NYC that had been originally registered out of state
- 3 days, 15 hours and 24 minutes ago, that handgun accidentally discharged, mildly wounding Plaxico’s leg
- 1 day, 1 hour and 46 minutes ago, Mr. Burress’ season was officially ended

Huge professional athletes in their physical prime, with tons of money, feel a need to go somewhere with a gun in their pocket. If the place is that dangerous, why go there? If you insist, take a body guard.
How can going to a place like that make sense. He shot himself and went to jail. I hope he can rethink his idea of fun now.
