From what I recall of his time here in Yinzer Nation, the full name was mostly “Plaxico” but shortened to “Plex”.
Sorry to hijack but this reminded me of this manliest names in the world list.
For the fun of it, I checked some Census records. My first name is the most popular first name in the US. This is not actually all that good of a thing.
Andruw did not exist in the 1990 Census and I checked, my daughters name did not either, even though there are a few others out there with the odd spelling I gave her of an ancient Welsh name. The Welsh version had far too many Ws and Ys.
BTW, no Diogenes in the census either.

Thigpen is a common family name in Louisiana and Mississippi. So is Yancey, come to think of it.
Likewise, I’d like to think the mother of Bengals DT Frostee Rucker had more important things in her life than Wendy’s milkshakes. But who knows that, either?
Lonnie Plaxico is a moderately well-known jazz bassist. So apparently it’s a real family name, however rare.
In Jimmy Carter’s boyhood memoirs “An Hour Before Sunrise”, he mentions a prominent family in southeastern Georgia with the last name “Plexico.” (At least, I think that’s how he spelled it.) So my guess is an old family name.
But we still call him “Plexiglass” in our house.
