Okay, I got Civ III-Play the World recently and I think it’s alright. So far I haven’t played multi-player and I think that the modifications (on single player) did not warrant the hefty price tag. So I’m hoping that the multi-player version will be worth the money.
In any event, has anyone played this online yet? I’m very curious, but I’ll admit, I don’t want to start a game and have to quit 30 minutes later-thus leaving the other players out to dry.
What do you dopers think?
It is unbearably slow. It is so slow it is beyond intolerable. I have barely played it online, but apparently things like opening the city screen or scrolling the map are inpossible without crashing the game. Also apparently the other versions (LAN and Email) are riddled with very bad problems. I thought the scenarios were the only good part (beside new Civs, which isn’t anything special), but they just dumped a bunch into one file and left it undocumented. And took out most of the MOD graphics, too.
It really pissed me off since they promised that an online version would be DOWNLOADABLE. Instead they made a terrible expansion pack and made you pay $40 for a horrid multiplayer and little else.
