Kids will always pick on other kids for some reason. In my day(1970’s), back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I was picked on for wearing hand me down clothes. It didn’t help that some of the pants were two sizes too big. I was the poor kid and an easy target.
When my family got solid and I could actually buy clothes from such reputable stores as K-mart the harassment gradually died down. Oh, but then I gained weight, and i was known as “thunder thighs”. This was in the era of the sizzler dresses. Well, the fat wore off by High School, and I was sporting a model sized body. But , wait. I had zits! Oh my god! Do not sit by her because you might get them! Yikes, I almost never survived my teenage years.
So, the point is, kids get picked on. Kids are stupid. If you, as a parent love and nurture your child, they can get through these horrible situations. I don’t care if you’re a single mother who never married, a gay parent, a parent in a plural marriage(as long as everyone is agreeable), your kids are going to be pickked on for something. YOU need to be there to support them. YOU need to let them them know they are not freaks or monsters.
Let’s ban parents who are near-sighted and maight make their kids into “four-eyes”, too.
However, I do ask parents to use a *modicum of sense * when picking their kids names. Sure, your family name is Hogg, and damnit, you’re not going to change it. Fine. But do not name the kid “Ima” or “Ham”. Few names are immune from being warped by kids into something cruel, but at least make it a little difficult for them, eh? After all, names are one of the few things you do get free choice in- use that choice responsibly.
I will ask parents of 'alternate lifestyles" to think carefully about where they chose to live however.
