How easy is it to play your movies that were not purchased with itunes on Apple TV. My dad has a Mac and is wondering how easy it is to play things he has recorded with his non iphone camera on the TV. I assume that it is pretty easy but I don’t have Apple stuff at home so I am unfamiliar with how apple TV and itunes work together.
Import whatever .mov or .mp4 (some variant of h.264) you have into iTunes just by dragging it into the library.
Once I do that, I like to select it from the Movies tab, hit Command-I (get info) and title the movie, add a date, set it to either home movie, movie, TV show (or whatever) and even add a cover image from its various tabs.
From there, once you turn on Home Sharing, and iTunes sees your Apple TV under preferences/Devices, you navigate to the green Computers badge on the Apple TV interface, and from there your various libraries should just show up for playing/streaming.
