I just bought a playstation a few weeks ago. The memory card is full. Is it possible to erase it, or do I just have to buy a new one every time they get full.
thanks
michael
There are different brand but there are two things that worked on mine.
-
Turn on your Playstation with NO CD in the unit (and mayber the lid open…don’t remember). A screen will appear that allows you to view the contents of the memory card and selectively delete files.

Most memory cards have a tiny button you push in (usually you need a pen tip or pin to do this). The memory card instructions should say but I think you hold this down for 5-10 seconds and the entire card will erase and go back to the state you bought it in.
Hope that helps…
Jeff pretty much summed it up, but I’ll just add a few things.
The lid has to be closed with no CD in it. When the screen comes up showing you the contents of the memory card, icons of your saved games will appear. Sometimes the image that represents the icon will not really correlate to the game, so you’ll have to be careful what you erase.
thanks.
I’m mostly rehashing what was previously written, but to access the memory card manager you need to power up your PSX either with the lid closed and no CD or with the lid open. Then simply click on “Memory Card” and it will take you to the manager where you can view all of your saved game data and pick and choose which file(s) you wish to delete. Some memory cards have a “multi-page” option- the card will have a button on the side allowing you to go through the various pages of saved game data. You would need to select the proper page before purging the desired data.
An alternative option to a memory card is the virtual memory manager- it plugs into the serial port on your PSX, holds a lot more data than a regular memory card, and, as far as I’ve seen, doesn’t have the data loss problems of memory cards. Some models also double as import/CDR mod chips. I know they used to sell em here: http://www.levelsix.com/ .
