This may have been done already, and if so oh well. I have had both for quite some time, actually since each came out. I do not include Sega Dreamcast in this poll as I think it is a piece of shit that will be dead in the water before this Christmas. Personally, I prefer Playstation, I like the games, I like the graphics, I like the contrtollers. I know all the old pros and cons, loading the games on Playstation vs. Instant gratification on N64 and disc format vs cartridge, which with in the case of small children does make sense.
From all that I hear PSX2 should be rolling out within the next couple of months, hopefully bug-free. It will be a DVD player as well as having some online options, being completely PSX1 compatible, with superb graphics. I know what I’ll be buying soon. So, for those of you that have both, which do you prefer, for those of you with one or the other, let’s hear your opinions. I’m disillusioned with the board lately, I have nothing to debate heavily, just felt like getting some viewpoints from people who waste their time on video games as well as here. Thanks guys.
This life is a test. It is only a test. If it had been an actual life, you would have received further instructions on where to go and what to do.
Possibly the only thing funnier than the Mac Vs. the PC war is the people who HATE other game platforms.
That being said, nintendo screwed up royally when they shafted sony. Playstation kicks ass if only because they don’t try to make all their games kid friendly.
Kicking and screaming will you be dragged into the year 2000. I own a Dreamcast, Playstation, and N64. N64 games are only trickling out at this point and last couple of “big” titles (Donkey Kong 64, Jet Force Gemini) left me kind of disappointed. However, its not a bad system. Playstation still has some decent titles coming out (Tony Hawk skateboarding, Sled Storm) but its real hard to play after getting used to the Dreamcast.
If you haven’t played a DC, I recommend wholeheartedly doing so ASAP. I can’t even play the other systems after playing the Sega. All the popular Sega arcade titles are out or coming out for it (Sega Rally, Crazy Taxi, Get Bass, Virtua Cop 2, et al.) plus many oher major companies (Capcom) are making games for it.
The PSX2 isn’t coming out til Xmastime in this country. At this point, very few games are ready for the Japanese release and almost none of them are sports games. You’ll get a Tekken (fighting) and a Ridge Racer (driving) game but that’s about it for a while. A powerful system is worthless if no one is developing games for it.
I’m buying the PSX2 because Square’s Final Fantasies will be on that platform. I don’t like sports games, and I hate most pattern games. RPGs for me!
I make my buying decisions according to available software. N64 just doesn’t have many titles that I’m interested in. I’d like to play Ocarina, sure, but I’m NOT shelling out that much money for just ONE game. Maybe I’ll rent it.
I also like the fact that the PSX2 will be backwards compatible. I wish that the SNES had that capability.
My qualifications: I’ve been playing video game since they came out, I have NES, SNES, and PSX (plus various computer games), and I’m the moderator for the PSX game boards on AOL.
The sound isn’t necessarily better on the PSX than the N64. I can think of several n64 games that have better music than some PSX games. Several games don’t use the CD on the PSX for sound but rather use PCM/Redbook sound built into the system which, IMO, sounds a bit worse than the N64.
Lynn is right- N64 has almost no RPGs for it (Zelda is the exception and is IMO the best N64 game). Square, makers of most of the really good RPGs (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve), has signed exclusively with Sony. Sega does still have several excellent RPGs (EGG, Time Stalkers, and the soon-to-be-released epic Shenmue). I’m not the biggest RPG nut and thought that the 2 PSX FF games were kinda bland- those 20 minute materia spells lulled me to sleep more than once. Lynn, you may want to keep in mind that at this point all anyone has seen of the Square PSX2 games are artist renditions and mock-ups- no actual game footage.
As of X. IX, (Which is looking gooooood - and the Mages are back! I missed their pointy little hats!) will be on the PSX.
And, of course, I agree totally with everything you said. I bought the Playstation because the games availiable for it are the ones I want, unlike the N64, or the Dreamcast.
well you see psx is better because its games are not wussy kid friendly no violence like nintendo. the only thing that makes nintendo worth having now is the fact that EXCITEBIKE 64 will be out soon.

To tell you the truth, I didn’t care for the really long summons myself, after the first few times. A good game can be enhanced with graphics, but graphics can’t save a bad game. I look for playability, replayability, and storyline way before I look at graphics and sound. However, I played (and greatly enjoyed) old text adventures like the Zork series, and I currently play in a MUD (Gemstone III), which requires you to provide your own graphics.
So, I’m getting a PSX2 because Square games will be on it. I’m putting my trust in Square to make the best games that can be made for that system.

What’s the point of being fascinatingly crazy, if you don’t enrich the world with it?
Hmmmm. I personally think you all KNOW way too much about games.
I don’t own any.
Get outside, fish, garden, soak up some sun, BBQ, climb a tree, enjoy the fresh air, go to the park, or visit the neighbors!
Uh, wait – get mugged, skin cancer, fire ants, carcinogens in the charcoal, poison ivy on the tree, fecal bacteria in the fish and pollutants in the air, perverts at the park, and nuts for neighbors ---- forget that I said anything.
How about neither? The PC has always been superior to any given gaming platform, simply because its OS allows you to gasp influence the way the system runs!
Sure, consoles have the graphics processing capability, but they’ll never be able to run a word processor or a spreadsheet. The versatility of a PC gives you these useful (albeit dull) functions, while still providing a powerful base for games.
Since I deal almost solely in RPGs, the Playstation is clearly the better choice of the two for me, and I just don’t trust Sega after they let down the Saturn like that. But since I am talking RPGs, my favorite system is definitely the Super NES. The Playstation doesn’t have a single game that entertained me as much as Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and the terminally overlooked Soulblazer trilogy.
And you have to admit, that thing was sturdy. I swear, you could throw it across the room and it would work fine afterwards. Whereas my Playstation wouldn’t work until I gave the stupid machine an alcohol rubdown every two weeks and that still didn’t stop it from eventually breaking down on me completely.
I personally prefer Dragonrealms to Gemstone III, but that was probably because I never got to second level

Does anybody know anything about this? In my earlier years I am sure I would have read about this in a video game magazine, but it has been a little while since I read one.
The X Box is (supposedly) a console unit that Microsoft is designing with Dell/Gateway producing. So far they have denied the existence of said console. It supposedly will be easy to port most/all Windows based games. I’ll believe it when I see it as rumors about it have been around for quite a while now.
PCs are great if you like FPSes, point and click games, and simulators (or spreadsheets). If you like RPGs or action platformers then you’re better off with a console.
The cartridge based systems are more rugged that the CD based ones. The N64 can take some abuse while the PS and DC need pampering. Gone are the good ol’ days when you could throw your NES controller across the room in frustration- controllers are now heavier, more delicate, and upwards of $20.
Ok, here is a link to an article about the X-BOX X-Box
It has been a little while since I played video games, but I might quit working and start playing video games again once these guys start turing out awesome games by the truckload
::Sitting down to play “Adventure!” with Manny and Louie.::
I agree that N64 has very few good titles out, but after playing Banjo Kazooie and Waveracer, I’m addicted. Has anyone else had problems with the SPS being “choppy”? I don’t know if this is due to the discs being dirty or something, but there have been a few times when the PS has done this.

Lord knows, it would be the first time.”
