Please answer! Opening eyes...

Hey! I’ve noticed that many times when I wake up, I cannot open my eyes! I must be trying to use the wrong muscles in my eyelid to open it, but whatever it is that’s causing it, its frustrating! If anyone knows what causes this, please post your answer!!

Just a WAG, but it may be a combination of you not using your eyelid muscles over-night so they haven’t “woken up” completely coupled with fluids from your eyes drying out and acting like a mild glue. I get that a bit, too. I figure it’s because of lying on my back while sleeping when human eyes are designed to drain best while the body is upright.

research sleep paralysis. It is a phenomenon where one is unable to move the body at all for almost a minute on waking up. you might find an answer there.

You should see a doctor. My non-expert guess is that this is probably harmless, but it could be a symptom of something serious.

I`ve had this happen a couple of times. I think in my case that my lids were just stuck shut. The sandman put way to much whatever in my eyes that night. But it did feel like the lids themselves were unresponsive.
Try rubbing your eyes if it happens again.
After rubbing, my lids popped open.

I suffered from this as a kid, due to severe hay fever. My eyelids became gummed shut overnight. It took warm water to dislodge the gunge.

Well, I’ve experienced something like this, but it only lasted for twenty seconds or so, so I’m not worried about myself like you are. Whazzis five minutes or more? Ask a doctor. I can’t beleive that so muych eye-crud built up (my problem) that you can’t open them.

Wy not use your fingers? I’m used to tounching my eyes to put in contacts, so maybe you woud;nt want to do that.

This has happened to me sort of. My mind is awake enough to tell me it’s time to get up, but not enough to actually move my body.

In these situations, (like this morning) I have actually dreamt of getting up etc. and not realised it was a dream until I woke up again.

Although, on closer inspection, this sounds different to what you are experiencing.
