Often when I am sleeping I can seem to consciously feel that I am sleeping and would want to wake up. However, no matter how mentally hard I try, I am unable to open my eyelids and wake up… it’s like I’m mentally struggling to open my eyes and regain consiousness and it’s only after some time that I successfully ‘wake up’.
yes, theres a giant folk lore about it in many asian cultures. Theres a modern term, but I can’t seem to recall. I’m sure someone’ll be around with it shortly.
It’s a form of sleep paralysis - your body shuts off control of motor skills, or at least it’s supposed to, when you are in a certain stage of sleep. Sometimes it happens when you’re still semi-awake. It can be incredibly disturbing. From what I can tell it’s fairly normal for people to experience it at some point or another, but not on a regular basis.
