Please Answer These Survey Questions

NOTE: The following is posted with permission from TubaDiva. Participation is strictly voluntary, and you must be at least 18 years old.

In addition to being an SDMB member I am a graduate student at George Mason University (GMU) in Fairfax, Virginia. I am currently doing research for my master’s thesis, which is titled, “Social Networking Sites and the Remediation of Monster.com: How Online Social Networking is Replacing Other Digital Methods of Hiring and Job Hunting.” I am interested in learning about your experiences with and attitudes about social networking sites as related to interviewing/hiring.

Please consider helping me with my research by taking one or both of the following surveys: [ul][li]For HR Professionals[/li][li]For Job Seekers (i.e., everyone else)[/ul][/li]These are confidential surveys, and no personal information will be requested or collected. While it is understood that no computer transmission can be perfectly secure, reasonable efforts will be made to protect the confidentiality of your transmission.

The GMU Human Subjects Review Board has waived the requirement for signing a consent form. However, it is important that you view the consent form (at http://mason.gmu.edu/~jigoe/) prior to beginning either survey.

The surveys will be open until 11:45pm EST on 3/23. Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to take the time to answer the questions!

I think I just skewed your research a bit, but that’s what I live for…

I wish all surveys were that short and concise…

That was easy.

I hope it helps.

Done and done.

Misnomer, are you also interested in responses from outside the US?

Done.

Done, although I may have skewed the results, too.

One thing that may make a difference to people’s answers is age and amount of experience. You see, I’ve over 40 and I’m not a member of any social networking sites unless you count this place. From what I’ve seen in the media about MySpace, Facebook, etc, I’m not sure how much people my age use them or how welcome we are there. I must admit, the latter is based on teenagers complaining about their parents turning up there. I’m also not all that good at socializing. If I were to hear that a job was being advertised on Facebook or MySpace, I’d assume it was aimed at someone 15 years younger than me, and I doubt I’d be a good fit. On the other hand, 20 years from now, those may well be prime places to look for a job.

If I have the wrong impression, please tell me.

Done did it, but I’m another old fart that’s not into online social networking. But you already knew or could at least have guessed it, Misnomer!
