I’d like to download all of the MMP threads I’ve posted in over the years; mostly to capture my own posts/history/journaling. After some trial and error, it seems the only way* to do this is to use Discourse’s “/print” feature (add “/print” to the end of a thread’s URL, then save as PDF). However, I’ve discovered that it can only be used 5 times per hour:
There are hundreds of threads I’d like to save: it’s already a time-consuming effort, and only 5 per hour is painful.
Would an admin/the admins be willing to disable the rate limiting by changing the “max prints per hour per user” setting to 0, please?
*Browser print/save options don’t work (I presume because of the infinite scrolling); those methods capture only the first few posts. And pre-Discourse options like “thread tools” and “show printable version” are OBE. This Discourse feature works perfectly, there’s just the limit issue.
You can download your entire posting history in just a couple minutes then filter that on your own computer.
Particularly if you want just your mmp posts by themselves, not in the context of each entire mmp thread, this might be a lower effort way to do things.
The posts themselves download as a huge CSV file. So you will need to do some spreadsheet wizardry to tease out the mmp posts. But I bet that’s well within your occupational skillset and shouldn’t pose any particualr challenge.
Just to be clear: I’m not asking for help/advice, I’m only asking the admins if they’re willing to change a setting. Perhaps this should have have been a PM vs a thread, but ah well.
AFAIK, “admins” plural is incorrect. There’s only one admin (Ed Zotti) and he’s difficult to reach and apparently only reacts to critical forum-wide issues.
The other three are, I believe, Discourse employees who provide support and work to order, but I’m pretty sure “order” comes from Ed, not from any moderator.
No, they don’t work for Discourse and do not provide support.
They work for the Sun Times and other entities behind the scenes and (as far as I know) aren’t usually involved in the daily activities here.
I have had a few interactions with two of them over the years, but generally speaking, they talk to Ed and Ed talks to us. We don’t normally directly talk to them. Please do not bother them or try to contact them.
Discourse employees do sign up here from time to time for support work, but they are never listed as admins or moderators.
