I’ve noticed a few posts mention weird food or some other type of thing that we don’t get up here in Canada…I think one of them was “How do you eat your peeps?” read thru the whole post and still can’t figure out what the hell a peep is.
Next time you guys post some weird american thing, please explain what it is , so us ignorant canadians can follow the thread
It’s a marshmallow, shaped like a rabbit or a little chick, and covered in dyed, granulated sugar. Sold primarily around Easter. I think they’re pretty foul, but hey…
Hey, **Bedboy,**I didn’t know what a “peep” was, either, and I’m a born-and-raised American, but I was too embarrassed to ask. I was afraid the question, “How do you eat your peeps?” might turn out to be something like “felching”. (I’m still wishing Dr. Love hadn’t told me what it was.)
On a more appetizing subject, here is what The Joy of Cooking has to say about Canadian bacon:
I don’t know what part of Canada you are from bedboy4, but I knew what peeps are and have seen them on the shelf at Zellers as a matter of fact in the past week. Peeps were the awful candy the Easter bunny used to bring us when we were kids that my dad liked, thus ensuring he got a share of the candy.
:::grumble grumble…these enlighten the Canadians (and clog boy ;)) threads have got to go:::
Well, I learned our candy “Smarties” are known as “Rockets” in Canada (or at least Newfoundland), but no one seemed to know what Kraff dinners were. What are they? Terrance & Philip mention them in a “South Park” episode.
Smarties in the U.S. are one brand name of small rolled candies. Rockets are another brand name of the same. You can find both Smarties and Rockets in many U.S. stores.
Personal experience tells me Rockets are superior.
In Canada, Smarties are like strange-tasting M&Ms.(But Canadian stores sell M&Ms, too.)
You sure they weren’t saying “Kraft dinner”? That’s actually the name of the Mac and Cheese stuff in the blue box. And that’s what Barenaked Ladies call it, too, so maybe that’s how it’s known in Canada?
