I heard this song awhile ago and only remember a little bit of it. It’s sung by a female group and has an early Sixties feel to it, although for some reason I thought that it might be a much more recent recording -
it just sounded modern even though the style of the song seemed earlier, if that makes any sense. It’s about airports and flying but it kinda reminded me of “Do You Know The Way To San Jose”.
The only lyrics I remember are:
New York in '82 and my luggage got there too (this part is stuck in my head and the reason why I NEED to find the title of this so that I can listen to it and get it out of my damn head! :smack:)
and a chorus that’s something like,
Cry now baby, don’t cry now baby, let’s fly now baby, don’t cry now baby, let’s fly now baby
Probably not Japanese singer Seungri’s In My World. The chorus is “let’s fly, just you and I. Don’t cry, let’s fly.” But there’s no luggage in NY and no '60s girl group.
No, that’s definitely not it. It’s hard to describe the sound, but to me it sounds like a '90s girl group trying to sound like a '60s girl group and doing a darn fine job. It’s light and poppy and reminds me of “Do You Know The Way To San Jose”.
Did they have English accents? The Pipettes’ 2006 album “We Are the Pipettes” was all 60s mod-era girl-group inspired. Hmmm…they sound like the type of group that would sing the song that I’m looking for. I played a few of their songs, not all of them, but none of the titles sound like the song would be exclusively about airports and airplanes and flying. I’ll go through the rest of their songs, but I’m thinking that while close, this probably isn’t it.
I got an mp3 of the song from the friend of a friend that I first heard the song from, but it’s only labeled as “track 30”. I’m still clueless as to the artist/title. The FOAF doesn’t know where the song came from either.
Here’s the song:
