Please help me find a better MPG player for Ubuntu

I’m using Totem 2.18.1 with GStreamer 0.10.12 and Gnome in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) and I’m fed up with it. My biggest complaint is the slider. Start an MPG playing, want to jump ahead a little bit (skip over a commercial, say) and click the slider. It skips ahead like 2 seconds. Click again, it skips ahead like 10 seconds. Click again, it skips ahead 12 minutes. Great algorithm there, guys.

But the killer is, it won’t go backward at all. This is ungodly frustrating.

Help?
