Please help me help this sweet kid...if you can

First off, this is not spam or a lie. I know this young 12 year old boy, Jordan. He has never had a very easy life; he had to “grow up” much earlier than most. I used to baby-sit him and a quieter, better-behaved child you’ll never meet. He also has too younger siblings, twins, Jennifer and Trevor; I don’t know them as well so I’ll just talk about Jordan.

This is a sweet, shy child with a gentle heart. Now for the sad part, in the run-down mobile home his family lives in there is only one single-sized bed he SHARES with his brother and sister. He has very few “toys” and “things” and he is coming to an age when clothes and “things” become very important. He loves roller hockey (his parents wouldn’t pay for ice hockey, equipment too expensive) and computer games (although he doesn’t have a computer at home). He appreciates everything he is ever given. My father gave him a bible and he called all excited to say, “Thank you, I am on page 13!”

My sister has managed to track down another bed for this kid to sleep in alone, so they are doing okay that way. I’m not really asking for money, because at least one of his parents drinks heavily so I can’t promise they would spend it on him.

I am looking for stuff, anything that is suitable for a 12 year old boy or for his five year old siblings. If any of you have stuff you were going to get rid of, or if you can see it clear to maybe buy something small for this family, please do so. Keep in mind I am in Canada so shipping may be an issue.

If you have to send money, I will gather it together and buy something here for him. His birthday just passed, so the timing is perfect.

Please help me help this kid. If anyone wants to help, email me and I will get you and address to send everything to.

Thank you all in advance for anything you can spare. I wouldn’t normally ask, but with the wedding and everything I can’t afford as much as he needs.

Sorry I forgot to post sizes. I’ll have to get back to you with shoes, but as for clothes, he wears size ten and is very thin. Jennifer and Trevor are small for thier age and wear size four to five.

I have already gotten some responses, thanks so much you guys!

Poysyn, it’s been a long time since I’ve had kids around and their stuff, but if you’ll send me your address, I’ll be glad to send money and let you decide what to do with it.

You’re a good person for trying so hard to help.

Jim

We’re getting ready to move and I was going to have to start going through my kid’s things anyway. I’m not sure how much I can do for the older boy since my oldest is a girl, but I know I can round up toys for the twins at least.

Since my son’s been on Adderal, he’s slimmed down so I may have a few things Jordan can wear. I’ll just have to look. I’ll be dropping you email.

Ditto what Jim said. You’re a good person

Although I don’t have any children, I will ask a friend of mine who has a couple of toddler boys. Perhaps she has something that can be of use.

Poysyn, you’re a great person for this. Where are they? Can I send things to you via Sears or something?

I would not want the parents to pick up anything, knowing that they can just return the goods for refunds.

Poysyn,

I do a lot of fundraising (see other threads) for needy kids, or kids in tough circumstances. I have found a lot of stores (and store chains) have been very helpful in donating things.

Drop me a line, let me know where you are exactly. I can maybe help you and point you to some of my contacts.

Best of luck,

Elly

Ginger - Sure you can send things through Sears, I’ll drop you a line with my info, I’ll make sure it gets to the kids!

Jordan wears size four in shoes. The twins wear size 10.

Gotta bump. I think the mods will understand

I do a lot of garage saling with my husband (he looks for old tools, I look for the ever elusive toddler clothing that isn’t stained to high heaven). This is a pretty affluent community, so the garage sale stuff can be pretty unbelievable. Anyway, I do see a lot of high-quality children’s clothing around here, going for cheap. I’ll keep my eye out.

Last time I’ll bump it, I promise.

check your e-mail. I’ve got news for you.

I’ll give it one more bump for you.

Jim

Sent you an email.

This deserves one last bump I think.

We’ve just moved and as we go through boxes we’ll be getting rid of a lot of stuff. My son is 5, so I may have some stuff for the twins… no promises though, I don’t know what condition stuff will be in… our dog has chewed on a lot of what we have

But send me your info to opalcat@opalcat.com and if I come up with some stuff I’ll get back to you ok?

Poysyn, please check your mail for an email from me.

package on the way to you, poysyn. should be there in 4-7 days.
