Please help me identify this automobile

Yesterday afternoon my husband and I were driving behind this strange, ugly car that I’ve never seen before.

It looked like it could be a luxury vehicle and the only identifying marks on its rear were:

[ul]
[li] A black oval in the center with a strike-through R. Looked like this --> (-R-)[/li][li]“supercharged” (i think) was on the right side in relatively small font.[/li][li]It had that scrunched up rear similar to the rear of a Jag S-Type[/li][/ul]

I don’t know why it’s driving me so bonkers, but I’ve never seen that automobile logo before and now I just have to know what it is.

Any ideas?

Possibly a Bentley? It’s a B, not an R, but have a look.

Maybe a Buick Riviera?

Here is the Riviera Logo

Here too, , and here… , and here… and here…

And here’s a butt shot of the Riviera-- does this rear end look like the one you saw, ma’am?

Holy cow, that’s the one. Gah, it’s even more hideous in soft copy. It’s butt looks like it’s attempting to, oh how do I put this without sounding too crass? Pinch a loaf.

shudder

The Riviera is one of the “inverted teardrop” coupes GM built in the late 90s. The design was created to make the Monte Carlo a more competitive race car.

Unfortunately, applying Buick styling to it results in a Buick Riviera.

Looks like it IS the loaf to me. Tapered, even.
