Please help me with my RPG backstory

Ok some of this stuff below i am not knowledgable on. But this is a backstory on a GURPS campaign I want to run, please read it and let me know if it is believable.

Diplomatic Briefing

If you were American or European between 2004 and 2010 you undoubtedly would have seen the name “Made in China” on almost every consumer product you purchased. Everything from shoes to dining ware, from furniture to ash trays, and even increasingly cars and computer hardware were being produced and exported for the eager Western consumer.

By 2008 the Chinese had the capitalist world right where it wanted them. Depending on the cheapest, largest, most centralized, and most efficient labor force in the world, the west relied almost exclusively on Chinese labor for production. The economies of Europe and the US exported over 90% of their labor to China. Jiang zhe min’s increased exploitation and streamlined organization of Chinese labor made China extremely attractive and extremely inexpensive. Over 1.3 billion workers were divided into several state-run production corporations based on specific types of products from everything to cars to shoes. The whole of the Chinese economy was based around highly organized, extremely cheap and increasingly skilled labor.

On February 9th 2009 exploited western nonchalance and struggling eastern economies by creating several oil seeking ventures into the South China Sea. Unbeknownst to all but a few ignored low-level intelligence officials in the United States, Russian Commonwealth, and the European Union, these companies actual mission was the corporate takeover of Japan and Koreas beleaguered corporations. A partial economic conquest of Korea and Japan was in order. Through a combination of sly economic maneuvering, bribery, western pressure, and with the promise to allow struggling Asian economies to access China’s immense labor pool, China gained access to the Japanese and Korean markets by the end of 2009. As these companies seemingly did begin to strike oil, surprising most oil hunting experts, a much needed oil transfusion was delivered to Korea and Japan. The public, and corporations, lined up to purchase oil and gasoline from Chinese run companies.

The coffers of the Chinese began to swell, as did patriotic vengeance. Chinese propaganda began to skillfully recall cultural memories of the Boxer Rebellion, and opium fueled western exploitation of the Middle Kingdom. The people of China brewed over into a cauldron of Western hatred. Chinese labor became loyal to their masters as moderate pay raises brought their standard of living up to the “barely tolerable” level, but to a people who once barely subsisted in labor camps, they felt like Kings. Slowly from 2010 to 2015, Chinese oil became the only source of oil in the Far East as Chechnyan terrorists destroyed the promising joint EU-Russian oil ventures in Siberia. Economic domination of the Near East was at hand. Chinese President Zhang Zhe Min began to dictate to the once great governments of Japan and Korea. Under the auspices of an EU style union China, North Korea, Japan, and South Korea created the Asian Hegenomy. It was that same day that the Chinese barred western companies from further “exploiting” the diligent Chinese (instead they were going to let now state run companies like Honda, Mitsubishi, etc exploit them).

September 19th 2015 was that day. It was the same day the DOW lost 80% of its value, the day that the Chinese seemed to be astride the world in economic conquest. The west was befuddled. They had been buddying up to their labor pool for years now. The Chinese even managed to make it look like China’s horrible human rights record was the fault of western exploitation. Maybe it was, who knows. It was not a good day to be president. Throughout the years the EU and the US had both become the world’s policeman for better or for worse. Managing the politics in the Middle East during and after the war on terror seemed to be the only thing the public cared about foreign affairs wise. Osama Bin Laden was dead, Saddam Hussein was dead, and a year earlier a joint EU-US force had ousted the extremist dictator, Ali Nasser, of Saudi Arabia. Oil poured in from Middle East oil wells, as EU-US peacekeeping troops continued to occupy Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, and Afghanistan. A Palestinian state existed across a great wall separating much of the west bank from Israel. Arab anger was undeniable, but terrorist attacks seemed only to persist against the occupying troops, and not at home.

US and EU citizens alike ignored developments in China until that fateful day. Their consuming materialism shot the US and EU economies through the roof. Some experts saw the danger, but nobody really listened to them, just like nobody listened 15 years ago before the last recession. Nobody had seen runs on the bank in more than 70 years. It seemed every man, woman, and child clamored into banks and dialed their stockbrokers to turn anything they could into cold hard cash. Several banks defaulted, making the federal government fork out billions in compensation. To top it off President Gore was a lame duck, ineffectual on all fronts. Nobody expected, however, what was going to happen a few days later. President Gore, dead. Shot himself in the oval office, by his own hand. Hillary Clinton took over right after. Nothing was in good shape. Citizens were on the edge. Some were saying it was the end of the old republic. As she was sworn in on September 23rd, Mrs. Clinton had every tearful eye focused squarely on her.

Meanwhile in the EU things were disintegrating. This would be the test that bound them or tore them apart. References to the US civil war flung wildly around as member states through blame at each other. Threats to leave were widespread, but inevitably died down. “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” shouted the unionists. It had been their plan, successful to now, to create an economy that rivaled that of the US. It seemed to work. However the EU business community regretted trying to mimic the behavior of their US counterparts. In any event, though disastrously poor, the EU had become tightly interwoven. No state truly wished to face economic exclusion and isolation. Nobody seemed truly willing to rock the boat further.

However it was in the British Commonwealth where, silently, information had been gathering since 2010 on the “Chinese Affair.” Britain, and her former dominions, had been preparing. Since the early 21st century both Australia and India had secretly began taking proactive steps toward understanding the intent of China. Fearing for their own security, Australian and Indian intelligence had achieved an unmatched level of sophistication. As every new tidbit of information arose on China’s plans for Asia, India and Australia became more and more interwoven in their intelligence gathering. No one is sure how much is known by either party. They did not trust the US or the EU as they were too much in bed with the Chinese. Information, though, was presented publicly to fellow members of the British commonwealth. Britain began to prepare for war, fueled by something they would not reveal to any other superpower. The British did this gradually, as not to alarm the public. Britian became closer and closer to her former dominions. The British did everything they could to treat them as equals, and not as the dominions they once were. It seemed that the British and her “allies” were the only ones prepared to stand up to the Chinese foe. Rest assured the British took a hit on September 19th, but they were ready. On September 20th about 100,00 ground troops, 48 Harrier jets as well as an asundry of supplies landed on Australian and Indian soil from all over the former empire

Just remember that Australia and India have their own quite capable military forces - the British troops would not be the only soldiers there.

Australian fighter pilots (flying F/A-18’s and F/B-111’s) and SAS commandoes are considered to be among the best in the world. I read a quote from a USAF pilot once who had just finished joint “aggressor” training with an Australian fighter squadron: “If you can’t find the Aussies, just look on your six…”

India has an extensive Navy (including at least one aircraft carrier and several modern submarines) and its own home-grown fighter aircraft industry that builds its own designs as well as Russian MiGs under license from Mikoyan-Gurevich.

Oh, and the Brits don’t just fly Harriers. The current RAF flies Harriers, Tornadoes, Jaguars. By your timeframe, they’d be re-equipping Harrier and Jaguar units with F-35 Joint Strike Fighters (probably the V/STOL variant) and would likely still be flying Tornadoes (or Eurofighters, if those ever manage to go into production) as well. Don’t count the Royal Navy out, either - those troops, aircraft and supplies would be supported by at least one carrier and various support ships, and the British and Australian navies would integrate together quite well.

Thank you for the info. I just stuck in “Harriers” pending research. However, do you think its feasable that the British Commonwealth would work together in such a way. Moreover do you think that the EU would act the way I portray it?

Just one little thing. Isn’t a hydrogen based economy coming at some point? I recall something about America wanting to lose its dependance on the east so it gave the idea of a hydrogen fuel more support. Well seeing how the its 2009 I really don’t think oil would be made obsolete by hydrogen yet so I’m just rambling…
