Please help my friend has joined a cult!

I have a friend that has joined a group which I feel is a cult. I decided to publish a web page dedicated to making what I have learned about this group available to the public. I understand that you may or may not feel the same way I do about this group, but it is my hope that this information may be of some use to someone out there and that yours prayers may be of great help to my friend who I fear may be lost to us for good. Here is the URL of my home page. Feel free to E-mail me with your thoughts.

The Truth Seeker

hi truthseeker16,

Your story interests me.

Two Questions:

  1. Have you read the Left Behind series? Alot of what you are saying gives me the impresion that you have. If you have not, I suggest that you do. It is not only good reading, but I am sure it would help to strengthen your faith.

  2. You spoke about the man John Penial. I am well-versed in apocrology(the study of the end of the world as predicted by the Bible). Nearing the end of the world, there is supposed to be a man who is very charming and accepted by people, but who is actually the cunning and decieving Antichrist. I didn’t understand you, do you think John Penial may be the Antichrist?

  3. Is your friend still “down to earth”? Is she communicable? If you pretended to pick your nose and wipe it on her would she get wild eyed and lose her sense of humor? How deep into the “cult” is she?

Nothing about the group on http://www.rickross.com, which is my main source right now for comparing different religions.

This sounds like a book that some people took seriously. Maybe too seriously. But for me to state my true opinion, this would end up in GD for sure.

Hm. While I wouldn’t trust organization called “The Children of Law of One” very far, there still would need to be a bit more information about the organization. Has your friend been instructed to leave the world outside behind? Is her relationship with group so close that it disturbs her personal life? Is there a charismatic leader, that sort of typical cult signs? If not, then it would seem like another flaky New Age-group, and chances of your friend being ‘lost for good’ wouldn’t be too great - she’d snap out of it, eventually. In fact, by your webpage it would seem that you consider John Peniel’s not so subtle attacks on Christianity the most direful thing about this group - this alone is no grounds to declare a group a cult or not.
