Please help with video editing and animation on a budget.

So I just finished my first 2 sessions towards an Animation degree, so far excellent grades, but I am trying to get better, right now I am felling my tools at home are becoming inadequate.

Right now, the sessions will concentrate in traditional animation classes, but already a video editing class was done, and it seems that many future classes will require editing of your work. The final renders of your projects are made in Sorenson 3 video, and here is the problem, so far I can not find a way to render projects in Sorenson 3 with my old Premiere 5.1. I do know that there are new versions of Premiere out there, but I am talking budget here, I need help finding if there are pluggins or tools out there that allow you to render video to Sorenson 3, I do have a Canon digital camera and have a new multimedia computer with XP.

Or, is there is a good cheaper editing tool that saves to Sorenson 3? (BTW Sorenson is a compressor for QuickTime, do I have to get the latest version of QuickTime and the plugging then will appear in Premiere 5.1 after installation?)

I already have a rig for my animation frame-by-frame capture, and this is another reason why I am not upgrading. I heard that on the release 6 of Premiere, Adobe got rid of the frame-by-frame capture, was it included in the new Premiere Pro?

And if there are other animators out there, I will be eternally grateful for your advise on your money saving tips regarding animation materials and supplies.

Recommendations on what groups to join, regarding animation and film production, are welcomed too.
