Please identify book: man waiting for waterfall to end

I’m pretty sure this is from a 20th century French novel, perhaps Camus or St. Exupery. There’s a guy who comes from a very hot climate where water is precious. He is being shown around some other place, and sees a waterfall. His companion wants to move on, but the man doesn’t move. When asked why, he says that he’s waiting for it (the waterfall) to stop. Given his background, he just cannot comprehend that the gushing water just goes on and on.

Sorry for the vagueness, but that’s all I remember. Can anyone help me identify which book this comes from?
