Please name this flower

My friend sent me a photo of the flower shown at this link:

Does anyone know the name of it? I googled through flowers of many types but couldn’t locate this one.

It’s a passionflower.

It seems that this flower is growing on a vine in his back yard. He doesn’t know what the vine variety is.

It is a passionflower; Passiflora Cincinnata if I’m not mistaken.

Thank you Colophon. That seems to fill the bill.

Yes… I may have been hasty with the link to the particular species. There are lots of cultivated hybrid varieties of Passiflora.

The white anthers (in the centre) don’t seem to be true to the native P. cincinnata according to this pic, so you may well have a hybrid there.

Sorry to post again, but a word of warning - the first site I linked to says the flowers are edible. That is not true of all passionflower species, so don’t eat the things unless you are 100% sure which variety it is!

In fact, many species of Passiflora produce cyanide in all their tissues, so in general eating them is definitely not recommended.

Most of the examples of Cincinnata pictured in a Google Image Search are quite a close match, having white anthers. The one in your link appears to be a cultivar called ‘Dark Pollen’.

Another possibility is a Cincinnata/Incarnata hybrid called Incense.
