The same thing happened to me (randomly it seemed). I haven’t subscribed yet either, though… maybe it’s something else to motivate us to subscribe.

Ok, I’m going to issue another complaint here now… I haven’t subscribed (yet… I suppose), but I was under the impression that the 30-Day “Trial” Period basically gave you all of the options available to subscribers for 30 days. Is the Search feature exclusively for subscribers (and not guests, during their 30-day trial period)?
If so… I have to say that I’m already not impressed with the changes.

I understand the SDMB’s right to charge and don’t hold much against it, except that it cuts out the “teeming” and the “millions” and replaces them with the “sluggish hundreds”.

I agree with this statement. I’ve been around long enough to see a lot of really great posters take their leave, whether because they were banned or because their feelings were hurt or just because they had better things to do. There are some posters that I occasionally wonder about (neurotrashgrl - I think that was her handle - I wonder where she went to??).
Yeah, there are some cool people who are leaving, but there will be others. I’m often amazed when I glance at someone’s join date, and realize they joined 6 months ago, when it seems like they’ve been around forever.
As much as we see evidence to the contrary, there’s no shortage of intelligent, interesting people in this world and I’m sure at least a few of them will be drawn here.
I’ve never posted this before, and I’m not going to post any details because I do keep secrets pretty well I think, but it’s been long enough that I will say at least that several months after she vanished, NTG, who I had never had any contact with at all aside from being on the same Board, mailed me out of the blue with a long and horrifying story. I will only say she did not leave because of anything to do with this Message Board or (to the best of my knowledge) anyone on it. I sent a check-up mail to her soon afterwards, and did not get a response, nor to any other “are you OK” mails.
I’m sorry to hear that and I hope she’s doing ok. If you ever hear from her again, let her know that she’s thought of and remembered fondly.
Yeah, that was one of the initial complaints people had - that guests can’t search for answers and will be reposting questions that have been answered repeatedly. Let’s call it the “GRY Effect”. (as in how many words end in GRY?)
