Time was when Stretching by Bob Anderson and Jean Anderson was the book to have. I have a copy in storage somewhere; I love the way it is set out with a different specific routine of stretches for different activities. However, I’m increasingly finding that when I go for a massage/physio/chiro, the body pros are treating it like it’s well out of date.
So, does anybody have any recommendations for the new go to it book of stretching exercises, or do you feel that the Anderson x2 is still it? I’m going to be working out again starting on Sunday, so I need to buy a new stretching book or replace the Anderson…
I’ve had a couple of Pilates instructors recommend Stretching & Flexibility.
ETA: Ruby, you might want to consider getting some recommendations from a physical therapist. They tend to give basic stretching exercises as homework, and they’ll usually give handouts with instructions on how to do the stretches.
You can judge for yourself, Ruby. I’m not sure how much of the book is at this google link, but enough to get a feel for it.
It’s partly because I’m packing to leave town that I’d like some kind of answer off the dope - I really like the Anderson book, but I’d feel stupid buying a second copy of something that’s obsolete just because my first copy is in one box among hundreds…
[hijack] If I have one more person tell me that ‘if it’s been in storage and I’ve lived without it for months, I really don’t need it’, I really am going to snap their f#@#ing neck. I have, in fact, had to buy things to replace ones in storage that I can’t find without shoveling the whole damn thing out.[/hijack]
