I am looking for one that I can pop in in the mornings with a set workout, timed about 15-20 minutes, that I can do daily. I looked at a bunch of 10 minute and 15 minute DVDs and read the reviews, but it’s pretty hard to tell when you’re just starting from scratch. I have a yoga DVD at home but I don’t like it specifically because it’s an hour long and she yaks through half of it. I don’t want talking, either, I just want her (or him) to tell me what exercises to do.
I also don’t need one that’s super-basic. I’ve been doing yoga most of my life and I don’t need admonitions about breathing and would just like to do the damn exercises! I would call myself “moderate” skill level.
Suggestions? Ones that worked for you? Thanks ahead of time.
I don’t know any real yoga, but I do own Yoga for Regular Guys, developed by former pro wrestler “Diamond” Dallas Page. I like it and it kicks my butt.
He has three different workouts of varying lengths, with one of them being about 20 minutes.
Go to collagevideo.com. They do extensive reviews of DVDs, with lots of breakdowns about timing, etc.
Note that yoga for just 15 or 20 minutes isn’t typical … it takes that long to do a good round of sun salutations as warm-up. I’ve run across soem 30-minute routines, though. Look for ones with “AM” and/or “PM” in the titles, these are usually shorter than other routines.
I don’t know your fitness level, but you might look at a Tamilee Webb video called Tamilee Webb’s Total Stretch. It’s beginner-y but it borrows from yoga and has several different types of routines on it, some of them which are short.
I can do longer routines in the evening, and I generally do, or do other things. I really just want a little program where I can stretch my limbs a bit, wake up more fully, and go to work feeling more refreshed. But I really resent having to wake up earlier so I would like to keep it short.
Regular stretching and stuff is boring. I like yoga better, more entertaining.
I’ll check out the websites you guys mention. Thanks!
Yogadownload.com had tons of yoga classes in an audio format of varying lengths, types of yoga, levels and intensity. You have to pay for them but I’d had a year’s membership for awhile and it lets me download as many as I want. I like the audio format because
A) I don’t wear my glasses when I practice so I can’t see a screen
B) Because it’s in an audio format, they are much more descriptive of how to go in and out of a pose, alignment, etc.
It has indepth instruction (which you apparently don’t need) with an adaptive workout, a “chalk talk” track that talks about the benefits and things to watch out for, the instructional long track and a 20 minute flowing version of the workout, which is what you’d be wanting. These are each accessible through the DVD menu without having to go through protacted blah-blah, unlike a lot of exercise type vids. I’ll never understand why videos that are supposed to be part of a daily program will make an introductory portion unskippable, but it’s irritating as $^#%.
