For sammiches I’m a big fan of sandwich thins. Keeps the bread quotient low and has a nice soft crust because it’s made like a pan bread not a loaf. I think Arnold and OroWheat make them.
FlatOut’s Everything Fold-its.
It’s less “bread” and more like “flatbread” but they last a long time and taste great. There are other flavors too like rosemary and plain, but everything is my fave.
OP, where’s “here?” I’d happily recommend a San Luis Obispo sourdough, if I thought you could get it.
Seconded!
Middle of Nowhere NY.
I looked this up before I saw you wanted a sturdier white bread - but if you’ve got an Aldi nearby, this is my new favorite store bought bread. Nothing at all like white bread, however.
Famous Daves breads are all damn tasty if a bit pricey. I mostly buy Daves because it is both soy and dairy free unlike 99.9% of other store breads. (I have issues with both of those ingredients in food)
they even make or at least made a white.
I had enough of it too…
Keep parts separate, get a small cooler.
Use small packs of things, or small jars of condiments, and a blue ice-pack.
Put your meats, or containers on/next to the ice…
Any type bread wrapped in napkins on top of of all…
Place a Fork, Spoon and Knife as seperators, for other objects.
Its pretty simple, but rrrrr i want it simpler. -_-
Those lil half hoagie rolls work just fine, a couple bucks a dozen.
Sorry, thought this was another work food thread.
Ameroso Rolls, toast em…Or just try toasting your white bread.
It’s Bimbo all the way for me.
There was small family owned Italian bakery within walking distance of my house when I was growing up. They have grown:
We do have an Aldi, and I’m going to look for it. White will probably be the mainstay of my bread diet, but if I’m going to keep this up for the next couple of months, it’ll be nice to have a little variety.
I appreciate all the responses.
We like Peasant Bread from Bread Alone. I’m pretty sure it’s just NY area regional but they keep expanding.
Pepperidge Farm Hearty White.
The torta from Costco makes for amazing sandwiches. Toasts to any crunch level you want, holds up to wet ingredients superbly and has just the right chewiness.
If I may, a question about Pepperidge Farm bread: I’ve bought their hamburger buns before and had the last couple of buns sit on the counter for literally over 2 months with absolutely no sign of degradation. No other store-bought bread I’ve ever seen has lasted anywhere close to that long.
Is their sliced bread equally, um… hardy?
I buy the store brand oat nut bread, but I suspect it may be one of those “same bakery, different packaging” things. Good for turkey, ham, and cheese sammiches with a dab of spicy mustard.
Used it for grilled salami and cheese sandwich. Possibly the best sandwich I ever had.
I had nothing to add until I saw this post. If you can get to a Costco, go. Now.
mmm
I found the Pepperidge Farm hearty white at the store and tried out. It’s a good substitute.
