Correct. I’m a twenty-year Doper/uBB/vBB-user. I’m used to thinking of “>” and “<” symbols as teh EVIL.

If you use AdBlockPlus in your browser:

1. Scroll down the page to be able to view the Suggested Topics section
2. Click on the ABP icon in your browser to open it.
3. Click “Block Element” in ABP
4. Point to the whitespace on the page just above the words “Suggested Topics” This should make the whole section yellow.
5. Click on the whitespace. This should make the whole section red.
6. Agree to add the element to blocked elements in ABP.

When you type in “:)” it is aka “slight_smile”. This is automatic.

Sure there is. Smilies are a thing that about fifteen of them exist. Emojis are a thing of which there are about fifteen hundred.

The 15 smilies from the SDMB were custom added to that vbulletin software, I dont know if they got ported to this version. There are equivalents to all of them among those 1500 emojis though.

Last I checked, smilemojis were on for mobile devices and off for PCs. Probably a layering issue.

This worked great to get rid of the Suggested Topics at the bottom of the page, but I can’t get it to block the bloody Latest column on the right of the page. “Pooh!” sez I.

(ETA: that shows up on the landing page, not inside threads or, I think, forums.)

I just found a way to make a thread that doesn’t interest me NOT EVEN SHOW UP in the front page of the forum. THAT one I could grow to like.

How do you do that? That is the one and only feature I’ve wanted in forum software for a long time (I mentioned it when he was asking for suggestions a few years ago but I figured it wouldn’t happen).
