I stayed up last night watching the 1955 movie “Not as a Stranger” starring Robert Mitchum & Frank Sinatra.
That is, I stayed up until the last 15 minutes of it, and then fell asleep!:smack::mad:
I feel asleep right at the point that Mitchums character was going to do heart surgery on Dr. Runkleman
*What happened to Dr. Runkleman? Did he die?
*What happened to Sinatras character in the end?
*Did Mitchum learn he was going to be a father?
*Did his marriage survive?
*Did Olivia de Havillands character stay with Mitchum?
I wasted over 2 hours on this dry pile of dung, I at least want to know how it ended!
Not sure what happened to Sinatra, but this from a review at IMDB (edited, because the reviewer couldn’t write (or spell):
Juggling his duties as a doctor with his affair with Harris, Lucas’s world comes to a crashing end. It’s when he’s suddenly called into the hospital operating room to operate on his friend and fellow doctor Dave Ruckelman (played by Charles Bickford), who has just had a massive heart-attack and is not expected to pull through. Lucas, who has performed miracles on the operating table in the past, can’t save his friend this time around. Just when it seems that he’s got his heart back to normal, Dave suddenly dies, leaving Lucas shocked and destroyed, feeling for the very first time that he isn’t infallible.
Returning to Kristina a broken and helpless man, Lucas finally sees what he was so blind to. He now realizes just how much he needed Kristina and how without her he never would have made it out of medical school and in the world of preventive medicine. Kristina takes Lucas back, knowing that his arrogance and ego-maniacal sense of self-importance died on the operating table with his friend.
Well, that answers almost everything. Thanks.
This was one of those movies you keep watching hoping it’s going to get better. Then you end up wishing you had the last 2 hours of your life back. Then you fall asleep during the last 15 minutes and even though it sucks you want to know how it ended.
