Plumbing Question

I had a leak in my delta shower faucet. So I was told to simply replace the springs and cups. Easy enough. Had to shut off the water to the house before hand, so I did. Upon replacing the springs and cups, I turned the water to the house back on (approximately 30 minutes time had elapsed). Now there is no water coming out of any faucet if I try to use hot water, cold water works fine throughout the house. Do I just need to wait for the hot water to refill and heat up before it comes out? Or shouldn’t there at least be cold water coming out of the faucets if it is on the hot side?

Usually you have to change cartridges in these things. You can get things reversed or assembled wrong also.

Check if your water heater is turned on. It may have turned itself off when you shut off the water supply.

Did you drain the system?

What happens when you turn on the hot water? If you get air coming out, then, yes, just run around and turn all the hot water taps on and you’ll have hot water (well, water) in 10 minutes or so.

In the future, you don’t have to do that. First off, if you do actually have to drain the system, I shut off both valves in and out of my water heater so I don’t have to refill it. But all you have to do after shutting off the water is drain the water above it. To do that, shut off the water to the house, turn on the faucet you’re going to work with and let the water drain out. If it’s on the highest floor, it’ll just take a few seconds. If it’s on the first floor of a two story house, all the pipes from the second story will drain (make sure to open a tap upstairs).

In your case, after doing that, when you pull the handle out, the water in the pipe between the shower head and the valve will still fall out, but it won’t be too much. Have a towel ready to grab it if it’s going to fall between the walls and ruin drywall below it.

Well it sounds to me like he just hasn’t turned back on all that was turned off.

Before working on the faucet he stopped the water pressure from the town supply, and from any tanks (hot water system etc). WAG… the hot water system is emptying out through the cold water pipes … but only when the hot water faucet is letting air in…
