Plz help me!!! Windows Question!!

Damnit. I still can’t download files from a web browser!! When I click on the hyperlink, it takes me the page, but there is a damn quicktime logo there. Nothing else. Damnit all to hell. I uninstalled quicktime. What is giong on? It does it in IE and in my @home browser!! Grrrr. I can right click to save as, but not all work like that. :frowning:

I’ll assume that it’s not a Quicktime movie or a QTVR file that you want downloaded, 'cuz otherwise you’ll need to re-install Quicktime. (BTW, I’m not sure if you can directly download a QT file or not, but if not, there’s an option in the QT control panel to keep the file you are viewing in the cache, and then you’ll just have to fish for it on your hard drive).

Anyway, if it’s some sort of a graphic or sound file, you need to make sure that Quciktime didn’t associate itself with them during the previous install. In Windows Explorer, go into View (or Tools, depending on your version) > Folder Options (or File Types, I think), then look for .JPGs, .GIFs, and .WAVs and make sure that they’re assigned to some program other than QT (use IE if you don’t otherwise have a graphics program and Windows Sound Recorder for the .WAVs).

If it’s not a graphics or sound file, then I don’t know what happened. Hope this helps.

Instead of clicking normaly on the link, try right-clicking on it and selecting “Save Target As” (in IE) or “Save Link As” (in Netscape).

This will work for some files, but not all – it depends on how the site has their links arranged. If the “Save As” dialog shows a filename with the proper extension, that’s usually a sign that it will work.

for netscape one holds down shift & clicks this brings up a file save. I don’t know about IE, I think that its CTRL or ALT key. Of course, you could just try download.com & download Get Right & it would handle all this for you.
