Victini has a cath rate of 3, which means that throwing an ordinary pokeball at him at his full HP has a 0.4% chance of catching him.
Obviously the numbers go up using a better ball; I used Dusk Balls (3.5 x as effective as ordinary Poke Balls vs. Ultra Balls’ 2x effectiveness) and put him to sleep (2x as effective as awake vs. 1.5x for paralysis).
Also, if a “try to catch 'em” battle goes on past 40 turns, switch to Timer Balls (4x on every turn past 40). Also not a terrible idea to try a Quick Ball (4x on first turn of battle only).
On to other news. I beat the Elite Four, and captured legendaries Victini, Cobalion, Virizon, Terrakion, Thunderus (Master Ball!), and Kyurem.
Now I am involved in tracking down the Seven Sages. I have three still at large.
It was explored in the anime, for example I remember an episode where they ran into a whole tribe of Pikachus and Pikachu chose to stay with Ace.
Spain was pika-pika-saturated for weeks after that episode, it seemed as if even people who hadn’t had a kid in the house since they were that kid somehow managed to catch it.
I’ve been playing a bunch of battle subway battles now and am really liking the combination of Excadrill with Sand Rush (doubles Speed in a sandstorm) and Tyranitar as a lead-off batter to create the permanant sandstorm effect. Getting a single Swords Dance on Excadrill, combined with the sandstorm-boosted speed, means he can reliably slaughter a wide range of beasties with ease.
Is it too late to bump this up? I’m another adult playing (/sigh, why can’t I lay off these games?) looking for more contacts. I’m about at the 5th badge, I have a perfect ditto to breed (so if you guys do get competetive [I don’t know yet if I want to or not] I can breed some things up), and I was interested in finding out if we would / could get a casual battle league going. Any Takers?
I’m playing, on and off, both games. I’ve gotten a little frustrated with it because the new scaling XP system means it’s harder to grind a particular Pokemon up to high levels.
I’m not playing as regularly as I used to, but I still pick it up now and then. I haven’t done any serious battling, so I probably suck at that. But I’d be happy to give it a shot sometime.
Also, I have or can breed most non-legendary lines, so if you’re looking for something I’d be glad to trade.
I could probably use the white-exclusive standards (though, I have a petilil) and someone to trade with for evolutions, once I reach the point where I want to finish off the dex. I have an oshawott for trade with some decent stats, if you have a tepig.
I have all the starters, so I can breed you a Tepig, no problem. There’s still some Black exclusives I could use, but I don’t remember which off the top of my head. I’ll send you a PM when I get home tonight and we can work something out.
I have a battle team of whatever Pokeman I decide to use at any given moment and my strategy is mostly flailing around trying not to die.
The only actual people I’ve battled before now are the random people the Global system matches me up with. And every time it looks like I might win, the other person mysteriously Looses the Connection.
But sure, I’m willing to give it a shot. How does 9pm Eastern time sound?
