So around 6:30 a.m. this morning I wake up to beating on the door and people yelling into my apartment. I run to the living room and four cops have just broken down my door and have guns pointed at my head. They ordered me to put my hands up. I was like, what the fuck is going on? Apparently someone had made a report that people were fighting and firing gunshots in my apartment. It was just me and my daughter and we don’t fight or shoot each other. I tried to explain this as the cops acted like I had commited a violent crime. They were yelling at me, even after I told them that nothing was going on.
“Well, someone reported that it came from here.”
“Well, I just woke up and I haven’t heard any noise this morning.”
They were looking at each other and rolling their eyes as if I were lying. Bunch of fuckers. Anyway, they looked around and saw that everything was fine, but still acted like I did something wrong. They got MAD at ME because I didn’t thank them for coming to my rescue. They said I wasn’t acting very grateful. Well, I didn’t feel very fucking grateful. Motherfuckers. Then as they were leaving I heard one of them say something like, “Her boyfriend was probably over there or something.” Uh, yeah, whatever. I don’t appreciate the assumption that I was lying. There was NO ONE in my aparment except myself and my child.
So I had to wait for maintenance to come fix my door and also get questioned by one of the women from the office. She acted like I was some kind of troublemaker. Wtf? I was asleep. What a way to start the day.
I only ask because one of my hubby’s coworkers has had some serious problems with her new “neighbors” since they started accepting Section 8 housing (they recently arrested the drug dealer upstairs, and she witnessed a break-in on her way home one day).
We had problems with our asshat downstairs neighbors there, but never to THAT extreme!!
I would maybe suggest filing a complaint, but Og knows how much crap you’d have to go through if you tried to do that.
I was woken up to the view of a Special Branch (Police) man standing over me with a uzi(or something that looked like one) about 10 years ago*. I understand your anger, confusion etc. My guys were much nicer than your however. Maybe it was my mother hassling them about whether or not they wanted a cup of tea in the hand that cut the atmosphere.
Well, to be fair–if someone had been in your apartment attacking you and your small daughter, I imagine you would have been very grateful for the police department’s help. Going into an unknown situation, believing that there are weapons present and loaded, has got to be incredibly stressful for an officer. Doing so only to be confronted by an understandably confused but nevertheless irate woman cursing at them was likely quite frustrating. They shouldn’t have taken that frustration out on you of course, and there was no reason for them to assume you were lying when it was clear everything was OK–but at the same time they were just doing their jobs. I’m not exactly the world’s biggest police booster, but that’s how I see it. The true fucker in this story is whoever called in the false report.
Avarie–I don’t live at Lake Castleton, but kind of close. LC is a cesspool. That place has went downhill in the last few years. My complex isn’t bad or anything, so I’m clueless as to what the fuck this was really all about.
I wasn’t irate or cursing. I was just standing there trying to tell them that nothing had happened. I was cursing in my mind, but no way am I going to curse at 4 officers pointing guns at me.
I read this as you speaking to them. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’m right there with you on the not cursing at gun-toting officers, so imagining you saying that did not exactly put you in the poor victim role. My mental image of the situation has been adjusted accordingly.
If it makes you feel any better, two cops woke me up pounding on my door at 6am last Monday. No guns were involved, but regardless, I completely understand that it is definitely not a good way to start the day. Here’s hoping it improves, and that you figure out why/how this happened. It would be pretty sad if there actually was a gunfight somewhere, and people are hurt or dead because the cops went to the wrong place…
I wasn’t able to get online when that train wreck was still active. However, I read it afterwards. djf750, do NOT play “Let’s you and him(her) fight”. Do not attempt to escalate bad feelings between other posters.
djf I don’t know who you are but man you are seriously funny!
Indy I am sorry that happened to you! Was your little girl around when this happened? It must have frightened her… How old is she? I read your other thread about her difficulties and my heart went out to you… My sister had a little girl who had a lot of difficulties but now my sister feels she was an angel sent to them for a short time to show them how to accept and love “imperfection”. It seems like you are going through so much ~ I just want you to know I really hope some good things come your way!
That really sucks Indygrrl. Cops really can be asses sometimes, but I guess it comes with the territorry. They do have to deal with scum on a regular basis. Of course, that’s an explanation, not an excuse.
Wow. I’m sorry to hear about this, Indygrrl. I can’t put myself in their place and know what they knew (or thought they knew) at the time, but I can’t imagine kicking in a door based on just a report of shots fired. I’d have to hear a lot more than that myself!
I suggest filing a complaint. I know it may not do any good, but if these officers are out of control, someone needs to know about it.
Badge, I think your heart’s in the right place, but speaking from experience filing a complaint against the police may not only not help, but may make things worse. I went through a protracted run-in with the local PD in a town I lived in a few years ago in another life. what started out as mild harrassment/proactive policing quickly became outright vindictiveness and full-blown ball-breaking on the part of the PD (actually a handful of officers). They felt they were justified, as my then-girlfriend had been busted for possession of grass. In their eyes, that made her a huge drug dealer/connection worthy of shake-downs, interrogations, and etc. I’m not condoning her drug use. Illegal is illegal. But it was really rediculous. The cops there were acting like I was Al Capone, and she was my flunky/moll/fall-girl.
I ended up moving out of town after a year of being hasseled. You can’t fight City Hall, is my point. And for the record, I don’t use drugs, or sell them, or condone either, but to each his own.
