Police helicopters and Human torches Or My day at the beach. (long)

Yesterday my friends and I planned a long day at the beach consisting of fishing and volleyball. But I should have just stayed in bed. Since we wanted to start early we got up at 4:30am. So we loaded up our bikes well my bike, as I am the only one with saddlebags. They both have sports bikes, I have a big cruiser.

So were off we get to the canyon road that will take us all the way to the beach and since is still early and no ones around (so we thought) we weren’t exactly following the rules of the road. The road isn’t too bad as you can see about ¾ of a mile ahead of you and the posted speed limit is 50 MPH. We make though the canyon to PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and right then the red flashing lights. So the three of us pull over, officer walks up and asks for our license and registrations. Of course my friend Mike does not have his on him. So he has to call it in.

So the officer is being a nice guy so far. He asks while were out so early? We tell him were going fishing. Apparently he’s also a fishermen so we chat about that for 20 minutes and then he starts asking us about our bikes and this takes like 15 more minutes and this hole time he hasn’t said why he pulled us over and I know he wasn’t behind us in the canyon. I never been pulled over before but I sure most of the time so don’t have 35-40 minute conversions with the officer.

I finally can’t take it anymore and asked why he pulled us over. As I said earlier I know he had not seen us in the canyon so I could be for anything we were doing through there so I thought. Officer asked which one of us as the fastest bike? That would be Mike, to which the officer says to Mike “Was that you came out of the tunnel first”.

Now I know were toast. The tunnel is halfway through the canyon so he does in fast know what we were doing. Next he asks “which one of you was riding with your feet on the handle bars?’ That was me I answer. He next questions us on about everything we had done. I however could not figure out how he saw all this. As he had been waiting for us and had not come up behind us. He said that there was a police helicopter in the area that was covering something from earlier and that he saw us in the canyon and called it ahead just our luck.

However that officer decides its time to have real fun and asks us which one of us should get the ticket? That right he only going to write one of us a ticket he said but we have to figure out who gets it. So he amuses him self for 10 minutes as we turn on each other like wild dogs. Final he tells us to just take off and he doesn’t see us again. So we are freed no tickets.

So we get to the beach and fish with what time we have left in the morning and then setup for volleyball. And so begins the really crazy part of the day. The volleyball courts are three deep on the beach and we are using the one closes to the parking lot to keep an eye on the bikes. A few more friends show up and the game is on. Two more groups Show up that are about the some age late teens to early 20’s. And use the other courts. Now in one of the groups was a really good-looking woman and the bathing suit she had on was not helping. As playing became more difficult after she showed up. I do notice that the guy’s in her group would leave to go down to the water and the ladies would stay and sun bath. However I young man from the 3rd group would come over and talk to this young lady any time the guys in her group disappeared. Not that I was staring.

Well I assumed (correctly) that he was trying to pick up this young lady but was not having a lot of success. The day is coming to a close and all are leaving. I loaded my bike back up and am sitting on it talking to my friends when the good-looking young would drives up in her car and calls over the guy that was hitting on her. He walks over to the car leans into the window and they start talking. While he’s leaned over talking to her two guys come up behind him and pour gasoline on him and the young lady in the car strikes a match on tosses it on him. Now I have seen some wild things in my life but I can’t even describe this.

The two guys jump in the car and they take off. Me being the idiot that I am take off after them. So I following them down the highway until the police show up. My other friend Dave had a cell phone so he called the police and told them what happen and the car their looking for is being followed by me. So I see the police car and then point to the car in question and then turned around and went back. So I don’t know if they ran or not. I get back to the beach and the story I got from both groups I basically that the guy kept hitting on the young lady even after she stated that she was their with boyfriend and was not interested. However I guess the young man thought persistence would pay off.

What I hard way to learn NO means NO. Not that I saying she should have cooked him either. Sorry for the length but I still in shock of the day events.

Absolutely horrific. I hope those three get long jail terms for attempted murder and anything else the prosecutors can dredge up.

Then I hope the victim sues them for everything they and their ancestors have ever owned.

:: stands up and applauds Reynard the Fox ::

bravo!

all sincerity, no sarcasm whatsoever.

that you could witness such a brutal act like that and still automatically take any actions you could to see that justice prevailed is laudable beyond words. would that quiet heroism like that could spread like the flu.

and i’d give you a thumbs-up on the handle, too, since i’m a (currently hiatused [is that a word?] ) foxhunter.

You’re not sure if the police pulled the two over?

Was the hitter burned? An ambulance called?

OMG!

Reynard, you deserve a medal. That was some quick thinking. I would probably still be standing there with my mouth hsnging open.

Agreed, bravo on doing what you did. I hope that I would have the same courage and presence of mind to act so quickly if I had a chance to help someone.

I hope the guy was okay. That’s scary!

I stop following them once the Police caught up and started casing them. At that point they had not pulled over yet so I don’t know if they tried to run or if they just pulled over but they were caught.

Yes an ambulance showed up but they ended up taking him away in a helicopter. Haven’t heard anything about his status other then he is still in the burn unit.
