Polish flag i.d. help

I live across the street from the Toronto chapter of the Polish Combatants Association. They’ve recently run up a new flag and I’d like help identifying it. It is like the current polish flag , with two horizontal stripes, white over red. But it has a red shield centred in the middle with a white eagle on the shield. The eagle, however, is much more simplified than the one on this old polish flag. What era in Poland’s history would such a flag be flown?

http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/pl.html offers a seemingly-good history of Polish flags. Nothign there seemed to fit the ‘simplified’ description, so it’s always possible they were just flying a crappy flag.

Might this page show the bird you’re thinking of? I don’t know what it is, but there are two birds in the background of this Polish Combatants website.

Poland, Lichtenstein and Indonesia all have essentially the same flag. If they ever declare war on one another, look out!

Lichtenstein also have the same national anthem as Britain. Can’t they do anything for themselves?!

  1. Centred in the middle, huh? Where else would it be centred

  2. Can’t you pop accross the road and ask them what it means? I’m sure they’d be happy to tell you.

  3. You might find the flag somewhere on this site :

Maybe one of the historical flags here : http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/pl-xx.html

What about Monaco? Won’t someone please think of Monaco?

Lichtenstein? Lichtenstein is blue over red.

Monaco and Indonesia are identical: Red over white.

The Polish flag with the eagle is used only for the diplomatic representation of Poland. It is still used today. The eagle has been a symbol of Poland for a long time, and was officially recognized in 1918. It originally and currently features a crown on its head. During the Communist Era, the eagle lacked the crown.
